Ok it started about 4 weeks ago the on my '04 xb12r the CEL came on and off many time while riding home to a point where the the tach jumped up and down many times and the bike cut out a few time. so i checked all the connections on battery and grounds everything was good so i took it to the dealership and they pulled codes 53, 32 and 23 the tech said a new battery might fix it after he saw my battery. after installing the battery everything was fine until about 1 1/2 ago when it started to happen again so this time i pulled the plugs and wire after looking at them they most definitely need to be replaced. then further examination i found something i don't think should be that way.

The wires are not come out just the insulation is pulled out of the housing.

plug wire from back cyclinder

right plug is rear and left is front.

so my question is would the TPS be causing the CEL to come on and the codes.

how to pull codes

so my question is would the TPS be causing the CEL to come on and the codes.

yes it will trigger the cel but not these codes 53, 32 and 23

That TPS is definitely suspect :D It is very hard to pull that much insulation.

Code 53 is not good. I have a GB231 ECM that should work if it comes down to that.

yes it will trigger the cel but not these codes 53, 32 and 23
these codes were pulled before the new battery and have not been to a dealership yet to have them pull the codes yet. the old codes were historic codes.

wouldnt jump to quick to dead ecm.. check other stuff first. no need to buy just to find out u dont need.. but i have one from 04 xb12 also. but at same time failing ingectors and ecm tht sucks

ok question if i don't have all the connections hooked up when i turn the key but don't start it will it pop out codes. i had the tps, air temp sensor unplugged and got the codes 11, 15, 44 and 53[sad](didn't unplug ecm). going back to post from anrkizm95 i know what codes are what and match up to what i had unplugged at 1 time or another.

ok question if i don't have all the connections hooked up when i turn the key but don't start it will it pop out codes

yes some codes can set ecm runs a test when the ign is turned on.change the plugs and wires and clean the coil contacts and change the tps.then go from there

I get confused sometimes the way people troubleshoot.

There's a plug that's obviously been running too rich and a code that says its injector has a problem.

Why are we looking anywhere else?

Black tape on the sensor wires will fix that, or replace.

Plug wire needs replacing.

Should be good after those are fixed.

Beginning to lose track of what is being asked here…

thanks guys for all the help i will let you know the out come when i put it back together and take it for a test ride today.[cool]

ok so i got all the code erased from the ecm and on my way to work this morning and the CEL flickered on ans off and the engine completely died. coasted over to shoulder of road and bike won't start had to want for about an hour before it started up. I jump pin 1 & 2 on the to see if any codes were stored but nothing. like i posted in the previous replies i have had code 53 come up twice now. So i just want to know how long does it take before a code is stored in the memory.

ok got a new race ecm took it to dealership and had a tps reset done on it. took the bike out for a ride saturday after i got it back from the dealership ran fine. i go this morning to go to work and the bike is doing the same thing again engine cuts out and dies. if i try to start the bike right away the cel light doesn't come on but the bike will crank but wont start but i notice if i tap the house for the run switch the cel light will come on and i can start the bike but it die after awhile. so could the switch be causing the the initial codes or what. i don't have any way to check for codes myself except for jumping the pins on the diagnostic plug and i have done that and there are no codes.

From other thread.: WD40 is your friend.

Manual says switch cannot be repaired and must be replaced. Look for someplace to spray inside and see what happens.

No more power washes.
