can someone tell me how to change my oil...There should be a right up on here...I have a XB12Scg Lightning thank you

In all honesty, if you dont know how to do it yourself, you probably shouldnt try it without a service manual. Or just save yourself the hassle and have someone do it. Just my opinion. Trying to save those few dollars could cost you lots more in the long run if you arent careful.

Well i am a ASE cert tech at a Chevy dealer i just wanted to know the basic's.And what you need to do it.I can figure it out myself. But i thought this was a forum that you could ask someone how to do things and they would give you there two cents.I was logged in on my friends name...

Oil Change Process

Tools Required - 5/8 Wrench
Oil Drain Pan
T-27 Torx
Rags
Red 271 LocTite Threadlocker
Small funnel

Supplies Needed - 3qts of oil
Oil filter
Drain plug O-ring

1. Start the bike up for a short period of time to bring it up to temp.

2. Turn bike off.

3. Place a suitable container under the drain plug.

4. Remove oil dipstick

5. Drain oil via the 5/8in drain plug on the forward part of the swingarm on the left hand side of the bike.

6. While thats draining, remove the chin spoiler from the front of the bike to access the oil filter.

7. Once all the oil is drained, replace the oil drain plug with a new o-ring installed. Torque to 26-29 ft-lbs.

8. Move drain pan to under the oil filter.

9. Remove oil filter.

10. Clean oil filter gasket contact surface on the crankcase.

11. Apply a thin film of clean oil to the filter gasket.

12. Pour 4.0 ounces (0.12 liter) of clean oil into the new filter. (approx. half full)

13. Screw filter onto crankcase until gasket contacts crankcase. Rotate the filter another 1/2-3/4 turn by hand. Wipe up any oil spilled on muffler.

14. Reinstall Chin Spoiler. Remember to put Red Loctite on all the bolts.

15. Fill bike with 2.5 qts of oil. Fill into dipstick hole in swingarm.

16. Install dipstick.

18. Shut off bike.

19. Verify proper oil level in bike while warm and on level ground on the side stand. Add to proper level if necessary.

BPG's just watchin out for a fellow bueller its not rocket science no, but any way......

you're right PAIRTBOW, I just dont want anybody to tackle anything they cant handle. The worst thing you can do is cause damage trying to fix. I dont know every person's mechanical aptitude when it comes to all things about your bike. Easy to me and some others may be Greek to others. I deal with this every day, this isnt just a hobby for me, its my job. I'm not trying to make anyone feel dumb or insult them, I just tell all people that then I go from there. One thing I always say is a service manual is the best $60 you will ever spend if you plan on doing your own services.

perfect info, BPG thanks a alot. turning wrenchs is what we do , just hav,nt had to on the buell that much. we will be buying a service manual soon.

That is a great write up for sure. Makes it easier to do it yourself. So there is no drain plug in the bottom of the motor anymore??

Red Loctite on the chin spoiler hardware because some of it does get hot on the muffler and all if it takes a lot of vibration due to being near the engine.
