It was warm out today about 28 so i figured i would start the bike and let her purr for a while. i noticed that the trickle charger tripped the CB in the shed and the battery was dead.

put the big charger on her and for start assist so i could get her running while i looked in the tripped CB. as soon as she fired up i got a system voltage error check engine light, low fuel light, and tach stuck at 2K (engine idle sounded normal no signs of racing). disconnected the charger and the display flashed system voltage went away and tach went back to normal. however the check engine light remained on as did the fuel light.

im sure the fuel light will go away after a short time running as she always does after a fill up (tank is full). but is there a way to trick the bike into telling me the codes with out a reader.

my X1 i could jumper a couple of wires and she blink the check engine light an associated number of time.

thanks in advance if the snow was gone i would just ride it up to the shop but i dont want to get her all salty just to put her away wet

With everything off open your diagnostic port (lightning's will be under the seat/bolts in the front fairing). Look into the port and you will see 4 wire ends. Turn it so the little lock part is at your 12 o'clock position, then use something to jump the two wires on the right (screwdriver usually works best, but anything metal should be fine). With the wires jumped turn on your key and kill switch (but do not start the bike). Your CEL should come on, then flash rapidly about 8 times, pause, then flash slowly for the first digit of the code (the number of flashes is the first number of the code), pause 2 seconds, then slowly for the second digit of the code (again, number of flashes is the second number of the code). If there is a second code it will pause again, then do the same for the second code...when it gets to the last code it will just keep repeating them till you turn the bike back off.

Haha, yeah, just cut and pasted from that thread...

Here's the list of trouble codes, should point you in the right direction of figuring out what's wrong...

CEL codes:
11-TPS
13- O2 sensor
14-ET (engine temp)
15-air intake temp
16-battery voltage
21-exhaust actuator
23-front injector
24-front coil
25-rear coil
32-rear injector
33-fuel pump
35-tach
36-fan
44-bank angle sensor
52, 53, 54, 55- ECM failure
56-cam sync. Failure

Ha, totally missed that this was on the 1125 board, just saw it at the bottom in the most recent threads...

You should be able to pull the codes through the dash, I believe you hold down the "mode" and "toggle" buttons while you turn the key on. Something to that effect...

So, Mr. Miami (I assume you are male,) when are you gonna get around to answering my "Help!VR/Stator check" post?
lol, no I did find some instructions after looking around a bit. Ill give it a shot this weekend. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated!

Haha, I'm still learning when it gets that deep into the bike. My stator died on me a while back, but fortunately I was still under warranty so just took it in to the dealer and let them take care of it.

Miami is right about not needing to jump wires...hold both the MODE & TOGGLE buttons in and cycle the key to the run position. It goes into self diagnosis mode and shows all codes as well as some other diag items. You can even get the electronic DTC codes from other members of the forum.

Jumping wires worked for me I tried using the two buttons and nothing happened but thank you for your help you save me allot of work
Does any one know of were to find instructions on how to change the fan themselves?
