check engine light?

Ok, I know nobody is hooked up to my bike right now but it's worth a shot...Check engine light comes on after about 15 min riding, has happened twice. Two days ago it gagged when I tried to leave work, almost stalled, backfired and puffed a big black cloud. Light came on about 15 min later. Turned the bike off, restarted it (while moving at highway speed) and the lights gone. Same happened today. Bike is running fine though. Any thoughts? Thanks, Wayne

You check your battery under load?

What about checking for Engine Codes?

if the light comes on, there should be an error code stored.
