I have any idea where my oil level should be and if its low how much to put in. Can someone help I was told to check it when I put gas in. Thanks..

Ride it until the motor is warm, shut off the motor and place the bike on the side stand. Make sure there is no dirt around the dip stick before you take it out. Take it out, wipr it off and screw it all the way back in then remove it again and take your reading. Dont overfill it! And also make sure you use the CORRECT oil.

I usually start my bike up for 30 sec to get the oil flowing then check it. If not just do a full oil change. Buy 3 quarts of oil Get a new filter, fill the filter, oil the oring put it on. And the add the rest of the oil to the swingarm after you drained it and you should be dead on.

About every 500 miles is when i check my X1 oil level. If you fill a tubers oil tank to the fill mark it will probably puke out half a quart on your leg. Usually keep the level on mine right between the low and full marks.

plus one on vanson1200r his is correct method to check the oil level.!!![up][up]

Twobuells is right don't fill a tuber to the full mark keep it about halfway or you will blow the cap off the tank. If you start it with the seat off the cap will take off like a bottle rocket I shot oil all over the celling of my garage the first time I changed the oil on my S3.

I also take a rag with some solvent on it to wipe out the tank filler neck and rubber part of the cap. It helps keep the dipstick in the tank where it belongs.

Good deal.. I checked the oil warm with the bike off the kick stand and it was right between the lines. I have some people saying that's where you want to be and some saying its low. I think it's good to go. Whats with the foam/bubbles? Is that common on a HD engine? It sucks im so super new with these bikes....lol

Just a hint.

I allways keep 2 small bottles of oil under my seat. I found that the redbull, burn or similar energy drink shot bottles work out perfect for this task.

2 bottles is the exact amount of oil needed to fill it up from minimum to maximum level.

It is also a lot easier to fill using these bottles. Especially when passenger pegs are mounted. Just top them in and leave them standing for a while.

The oil looks that way because your bike has a dry sump oil system. The scavenge side removes the oil from the cases after its seen the bearings and has drained to the sump but the scavenge side of the pump is bigger than the pressure side to keep oil from pooling in the cases so it sucks some air.

Got ya. Just found some oil leaking out of the bag I think it might be from one of the upper fittings on the bag..Ahh the joy of HD ownership...

Cool.. Thanks. I like that Banke oil filler cap but cant seem to find it anywhere. I do get dirt around that area and dont want it in the oil bag.

I have to ride mine for like 10minutes then park it n side stand and wait 10 for the oil to settle and solidify a bit (easier to read) then add a little at a time til full.
