I have a 2004 XB12R with 22k mile on it that I just bought used. It has a K&N filter and a Jardine RT1 muffler that was installed by one of the previous owners. I am still running out the gas that was already in the tank. It smells ok but I don't really know what octane or how old it is but will be filling it up with 93octane from Chevron when it's about empty. I changed the oil to 20w50 Vtwin full synthetic Mobile one and put a new stock oil filter on. I slightly tightened the primary chain (hope I got it right) and changed the Primary oil replacing it with what the local Harley dealership recommended, I believe it was Harley Formula +. I also replaced the clutch cable and adjusted it to spec. I only ever ran it for two short trips before this and it appeared to clank when cold. After doing all this cranked it up to take it for a test drive to test the clutch cable's adjustment and all seemed good but it was really clanking when I first fired it up. After a few minutes it settled down. I shut it off for a few minutes and cranked it back up and it sounded fine. I haven't got a change to crank it up again since it's fully cooled off but I anticipate that it will again clank. Any guess as to what this is or recommendations as to who to take it to. I live in the Hollywood, FL area. If the noise is normal and or easily fixed my next goal is to have it DYNO tuned to make sure my less restrictive intake and exhaust isn't causing any problems with my AFR.
