Cleaned Intake Air Control Sensor

I removed and cleaned the IAC on my 09 XB12Ss and after re-installing it the bike is constantly backfiring and cannot idle at all.

Is it possible that the bike just needs to get used to the sensor being cleaned? or did I create an air leak somewhere?

I should also note that I just installed a new throttle position sensor and reset it. Its reads 4.2deg so I don't think thats an issue. Maybe I will try putting the old one back in and see what happens.
 
Reset the tps one more time make sure you back the idle screw all the way, flip the throttle back and fourth a couple times. The position should be 5.1

I'm not familiar if the newer bikes are different but my 05 does not have an idle air control valve(which is what i assume you mean by intake air control sensor). Do the newer bikes? Or do you mean intake air temp sensor? That shouldn't cause noticeable issues at idle.

I can do that, but the manual says between 3.7 and 4.2. Is that wrong? And I agree, I don't think there is an idle screw, at least that I can adjust.

I used carb cleaner, just a little on the end of a q-tip and rag. Also, the manual refers to IAC as both "Idle Air Control" and "Intake Air Control". I believe they are the same thing. I think its a little stepper motor that goes up and down. If you listen really close you can hear it moving if the bike is on but engine is off. I have not done anything with the Intake Air Temp Sensor.
 
Ok, judging by the responses of others I guess they changed the bikes in later years.

I'm not sure if carb cleaner could damage it or not. I always use "electronic parts" cleaner on that type of stuff.
 
Mines a 06 and the value should be 5.1. For 08 you should do the following
To reset an 08+ Buell, do the following:
1. Turn on the key.
2. Set the kill switch to the run position.
3. Don’t start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently forced closed) to fully open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently forced closed).
4. Repeat 3 times. Hold each position (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second.
5. Turn the key off and on.
6. If you connect to Directlink, a fully closed throttle should indicate 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. If it doesn’t, repeat the above steps
 
Didn't realize it was a 08.

Its an 09, but same TPS reset procedure. Thanks.

And actually I used tightened the clamp ring for the velocity stack and the backfiring stopped. :) I must have loosened it while working on the IAC.

Now to figure out my O2 sensor issues...:(
 
The 08+ have many differences. My velocity stack on my 06 a is compression ring. Not sure if that's the exact term for that part but you pinch and remove its preloaded.

I replaced my 02 this year when I had the header ceramic coated. With 24k and the header off figured it would be a great time to replace. The 02 is quite expensive. I believe I paid $45.

Don't rotate the engine. Approach it from the rear fan assembly. You should be able to take it apart in 1 hour.

Very important spray the threads of you old 02.sensor with PB and let it soak for a couple hours. Don't apply too much force if it doesn't free up you could crack your header.

Thanks guys, I will try to ride it out. Should 50 miles be enough?

And I did look into the O2 procedure, doesn't look too bad if I have to do it. I will just have to find something to support the bike when removing the shock.
 
Rode about a mile and a half and check engine light came on, rear o2 inactive. I'm just going to replace it.

Any recommendations on the brand? Or does it matter? I see a bunch listed there.
 
A buddy recommended that I create a fuel map that is closed loop to see if the bike still shows the symptoms I'm guessing are from the O2 sensor.

First, does that sound like a good strategy?

Second, would anyone have a map like that?

I have ECM spy and ECM Droid, but other than. Logging. I'm not to familiar with either program, I'm reading through the ECM spy guide tonight. Don't feel like messing it up even more..
