So, while I was stopped at a red light, this semi made a left turn into the inside lane in the same direction of my travel. Completely legal and correct turn. After my light turned green I took off, I was in the outside lane. About a quarter mile down the road I caught up to the semi. He's still in the inside lane, so I tried to pass him. (Yeah, I know, my fault for passing him on the right) Well, about the time I get next to his trailer's rear wheels he decides that he needs to be in my lane RIGHT NOW. I couldn't tell you if he signaled or not.

Long story short, I did a brake check, locked up the rear, maintained control, and got the F outta his way.

Close call and glad it came out on a good note for ya.
I personally hate passing semi's, but when forced to do so its always on the left and I wait till there is absolutly no one in front of me for at least 2-3 car legnths past the truck. Regaurdless of speed limit I get by as fast as possable and into his line of sight in front of the truck.

Damn, good think you made it out, I bet your bike was fish tailing pretty good. Time to buy a new tire!

Yeah, all-in-all it was my bad. I was in a hurry and know better than trying to pass on the right.

However, if anybody has ever been to Bismarck you know what I'm talking about. Semi trucks, especially on this particular road, NEVER use the outside lane. For some reason they prefer to drive in the fast lane.

Sorry to hear about your close call. The only reason I can think of for him to move over so fast is he thought you flashed him over. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a bike flashes it's head lights for a truck driver to move over. I always wait for the bike to go around or for him to get behind me to move in any direction. Just glad you realized the error on your part and I'm sure he didn't mean for anything to happen to you either.

I speak from experience. One I am a truck driver and two this has happen to me once.

Yeah, drive was cool about it. Gave me the little "Sorry, I f-ed up wave"

And yes, a new tire was in order anyway, I was just hoping to make it to the end of the season.
