hoping someone can help i did a clutch adjustment on my 2004 no problem when i got a new cable and i'm trying to do one on my 2009 because it was really loose and wanted it tighten i guess main goal was to pull the friction zone in a little i loosened my cable and pulled the primary plate off pushed the cable on the back side all the way back towards the swing arm then tightened the set screw till if was just tight and backed it off a quarter turn sealed it up and went to tighten the cable and there was no give in the lever like it was stuck I've tired this several times over the past hour and same outcome every time please tell me what i'm doing wrong like i said my 04 no issues but something about this one i have to be doing wrong

703: let's assume you have started with the correct clutch cable for your firebolt. only you know that. remove clutch pack window on primary cover...sounds like you have. slide rubber accordian boot up on the adjustment barrel assembly which is part of cable and located at front of engine area. loosen jam nut and turn barrel clockwise so that you have plenty of slack at lever end. by plenty i mean you should be able to pull the cable out from the lever perch approx. 1/2 inch. now go to the clutch pack and remove large nut that has captive spring as part of it. this exposes the slotted adjustment screw. turn it OUT......COUNTERCLOCKWISE....until you feel slight resistance, then turn it IN....CLOCKWISE...approx. 1/2 turn. replace the large nut and spring assembly and the primary inspection cover. now go to the cable adjustment barrel again and turn it counterclockwise until you remove most all the freeplay at the lever. keep adjusting that barrel until you have approx. 1/8th to 3/16th of an inch freeplay at the cable and perch. squeeze lever several times to be sure all is fine, lock barrel jamnut and slide boot up over entire assembly. hope that helps.

Lunaticfringe has it right the way you were adjusting it is for a big twin Harley, Sportys and Buells are the opposite.

ive done everything exactly how youve said ive watched every video and read every post and i still cant get it right its like on one bike it fell in to place and the other doesnt wanna go its fine till i tighten up the cable and then its stuck can pull it in to get into first but when i start to let out to go it makes a weird sound and i shut it right off and try again. i dont want it to be to lose but im almost to the point of backing it out a few full turns and seeing what happens

You have it turned too far, turn clockwise till the screw has no resistance then go back counter clockwise when you feel resistance that is when you turn it back clockwise a 1/4 turn.

Aight so I'm lost officially and can't get it right anyone in sothern California that can come take a look at it
