Hey guys

So my run of awesome luck with this xb9r continues (see here http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Firebolt-XB12-XB9/Burning-too-rich-at-idle, and here http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Firebolt-XB12-XB9/Front-brake-loses-play

Today about 12 miles outside of Taos NM my clutch cable snapped and there are apparently no motorcycle shops here. Google search will find a few but the all (really all of em) are out of business.

So I'm holed up in a super 8 trying to find a cable i can use online. Does anyone know if there is a universal one that will fit, i have amazon prime and there are some motion pro one son there that are prime eligible so i could have them overnighted. Can buell parts overnight stuff?

Thanks

Ok i just had a crazy idea, so either knock it right down or tell me it just might work...

The cable snapped right at the lever, the little ball dohickey which holds it in the lever broke off. I'm think of finding a hardware store and soldering a ball of solder to the cable at the now frayed end. Just big enough to hold in place and just strong enough to get me to santa fe which is about 90mins away and has a harley dealership.

Is this lunacy? is there any other fix that would get me there?

Well i used a ferrule and crimped it to the cable, which got me to the HD dealership in Santa Fe. Where my fuel pump died.

Yeesh.

Well the local autozone has the mustang one e-2366. And a local waiter gave me a lead on a decent local mechanic.
No hatred here but i can't afford what the dealership quoted me, nor can i wait in town a week for the oem part. That said the guys here are incredibly friendly, and honestly if i lived nearby i'd probably go to them for everything, there was maybe 4-5 guys here who also rode buells.

anyway there's the rundown if anyones reading, brakes are still weird and i'm still down a clutch cable, but maybe i can get the pump sorted[smirk]

For future reference keep the cable and ferrule lubed where it is exposed inside the lever. You might hear a slight squeak when its dry and that will accelerate cable wear to the point where it snaps. It also helps if the ferrule can rotate easier.

Thanks kona i'll try them. though right now the fuel pump seems the bigger issue.

That and i don't yet have confirmation that anyone here can fix this.

What's most frustrating is i could totally repair this myself but i'm hundreds of miles from home with no way of getting my bike back.

Is there anyone from Santa Fe on this forum who would maybe let me use there garage for half a day?

:(
