Hey fellas. Was curious if anyone had any suggestions to remove a stripped torx bolt on the clutch inspection cover. my clutch cable snapped and ive been at this a week trying to remove these damned stripped bolts.
im kind of at wits end here. i tried using a bolt extractor by craftsman and it ended up breaking inside the bolt head.. ive been using the speedout extractor to remove the other stripped bolt and it came out fine.
ive been trying to just drill the bolt head off using a bolt extractor bit and now there is a crater in the bottom dead center of the bolt head and i cant get it out.
Any suggestions? maybe get a real drill bit and finish the job drilling through or maybe heating the bolt up and letting it cool a few times and then loctite a small bolt inside the crater to screw out?
i cant believe ive been at this a week but i need some help fellas.

if you haven't done it already make life easier by simply removing the entire cover and then do the job. just drain the primary fluid, remove clutch cable, remove the perimeter allen head bolts, and remove cover. gasket can almost always be saved and re-used if you're gentle with the removal process. having said that i assume you're referring to the 3 torx fasteners that hold the derby cover onto the primary cover. have never ever seen them strip or snap. i have seen the torx heads strip out from ham-fisted drones working on them but never the actual bolts strip or snap. with cover removed simply place it on flat surface with the outside of cover facing up @ you......spray penetrant into each bolt assembly you'll be working on.....obtain a proper sized easy-out tool....drill required hole....insert easy-out and bolt should thread right out. some use left hand drill bits....i've always found the easy-out method to be successful assuming the tool is top quality. if you can't perform that simple task then just completely drill out the entire broken bolt and step up to the next size torx. the cover is plain cast aluminum so either self-tap the new upsized torx or tap the fresh hole with proper sized threads to accept the new torx.
