yesterday bike suddenly nearly completely lost Neutral, tried adjusting and it would hold for about 3-4 pulls on lever. pulled Pri cover to find that one whole side of Pri. cover had broke off and was behind the clutch adjustment and was was eating things up...the 3 questions I have are.

1) when draining oil from pri it was really heavy with metal flaking...Im wondering if friction plates wear thin enough to cause Primary cover to break????

2) is the Clutch adj being held or does it rest against that Pri cover, or is it my lucky day and im able to slap it all back together and get on down the road???

3) any suggestions on what may prevent this from happening again???

Is this kit for a 09 12r? I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago and noticed some small metal shavings, just bought the bike 2 months ago, less than 4000 miles on it. Not having any clutch problems for now.

This kit works on all the different Buell XB models! That's awful low mileage to have this issue...but it only takes one time of adjusting your clutch wrong to start messing things up.

Dont know if anyone touched anything prior to my ownership, just know what I seen on the drain plug when I removed it, small amount of metal shavings, never seen anything like that before. Do you have kits in stock? Might buy one for cheap insurance.

dave: if you are taking the plunge for one of these kits see if they apply any sort of discount on 2 or more. i could use a kit as well. let me know please and will get you the funds for one. shavings on your primary drain plug magnet that look like whiskers quite normal. by normal i mean a "pinch" between your thumb and fore-finger if that makes sense. get in the habit of finding neutral and releasing clutch lever at stop signs and red lights and you'll likely never have this problem.

Yeah I can I could do $75/kit to the same address. Just mention in the notes of the order form this conversation or shoot me an email.
Thanks!
-Dave

John, Looks like there is a muti discount, Im going to hold off till my next oil change and see if I find more metal shavings on plug magnet, Ill PM you when Im ready to to buy.

Thank God for this kit!! Just placed my order. My 08 XB with 11k just broke. I was looking at a new primary cover too. Sweetness!!

dave's kits aren't cheap but then you're paying for premium parts, premium service, all his R&D and you're dealing with a board member who has a great rep and superior service to board members. the kits are outstanding but opt for the hardware kit as well. and TAKE YOUR TIME when you machine down the remnants of what's left of the broken lip. follow the included instruction sheet and be patient. that surface area must be precise as the instructions indicated. works better than factory when done correctly.
