Ok guys,

My patience is running out here. Working 60 hour weeks, and trying to diagnose running issues with my bike is stretching me thin.

Code 13, 02 sensor always lean
Code 14, ETS sensor shorted to ground

Flashing CEL, misfiring, bucking, carrying on at low RPMs while cruising. Once the CEL comes on, problem goes away (ECM running on defaults). Only happens when the bike is warm, and AFV values always in the positive (up to 130 once) (points to intake leak).

A little googling revealed another Bueller had almost exactly the same problem, but the culprit was nothing more than loose battery cables. I've checked all grounds and connections, everything is good.

My time is precious, and I just want to ride. If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be a great help.

I'm starting to think I'm going to need to buy another bike...one to actually ride, and the Buell, which seems to be nothing more than garage jewelry these days.

My bike only has 5k miles on it. This is WAY too soon for things like this to start happening.

Have you checked the battery's charge level? I keep wanting to steer you to the simplest things first, and if you can knock out options like an intake leak (fast and easy to check), a lot of gremlins pop up due to battery issues. Do you keep the bike on a trickle charger, like a Battery Tender? Those really help. Did you track and check the O2 sensor wiring? Mine was (is) a mess and I really thought it was part of the problem - the PO swore he never touched the wiring, but it looked to me like there was no way it had come from the factory like that. Anyway, I was all set to pull apart the bike, undo the shock and remove the fan to get at the O2 sensor and just swap it out - $20 part, standard from Bosch (auto parts store). I was relieved to find the loose wiring and solve it so simply, but I spent a lot of time looking for intake leaks, changing plugs, swapping plug wires (they can wear against stuff - it's really tight in there). I did tps resets, I datalogged, I studied the fuel maps.....

In the end, some things never change: you need good fuel, good air, good spark. Be patient and methodical. There's a solution, and once you find it, you will be back to grin mode.

I had problems with the IAT and TPS sensors after burning a fuelmap with ECMspy, error codes popped out of the blue. I have no clue what happened, but it was fixed by burning the whole original EEPROM in. A little different situation than yours, but just trying to help ;)
I was also googling a lot and some suggested checking the relays. You must either get a spare relay, or apparently you can unplug the AUX-relay (if your bike has one) and swap it around.

ps I also went sailing for a day, got good and drunk. Don't know if it really contributed to the situation, but problem was solved the next day. [up]

YEAH! Now that's what I'm talkin' about! LOL

I'm clearing my schedule this weekend and planning on spending the whole day getting everything sorted out. ECMSpy datalogging, new plugs, new intake gaskets....hopefully I can get it all wrapped up in a day.

I really, really like my Buell, but ****** I'm getting frustrated with how unreliable she's proving to be. I'm trying to stay positive about everything, but I have to admit my eyes are wandering, looking at other v-twins out there.

Did u ever find the problem? i just remapped my and am having similar issues. i have code 13 only coming up and my symptoms seem about the same

well i just noticed that my afv was up to 145 so i reset that along with a tps reset and then it ran perfect. went for a test ride and about a mile down the road the cel came back on but it kept running fine. rode another 15 min and still ran fine but cel still on. get it home and plug it in and code 13 still on

yes I found the problem. I plan to do a full write up, but it ended up being a really wacky ground problem.

There are only three grounds for the entire wiring harness, and they are NOT connected to each other inside the harness (ie redundant/daisy chained grounds). You need to check the two small gauge ground wires, they are the ONLY grounds between the ECM and the rest of the bike.

On a lightning, those grounds are under the seat. If the subframe/tail rails are not cleanly bolted to the frame, there is not an adequate ground path to the engine (this isn't the best design on Buell's part).

On a firebolt, those grounds are at the bottom of the steering stem.

This sounds kind of similiar to a problem I was having with mine. I tried doing a TPS reset and the bike took a **** afterwards... Turned out it was my idle screw.. The cable had kinked and I couldnt adjust it anymore... talked to EBR and they sent me a new one. installed it and did a TPS reset and it runs like a champ now... And also I was getting a code13 also... saying I was always running lean. I didnt have the other code... but just throwing that out there.

so after u got the new idle screw it fixed it? i know mine turs really hard. I cleaned my grounds up but that didnt fix it. the bike runs perfect when i first start it then i ride for about 5 min when it gets warm and it will start running rough around 3000 rpm. after about 10 seconds of this the cel will come on and then it starts running smooth with the occasional spudder. also the afv will creep up to 110 or 120 the longer i ride it the higher it gets
