Comfort Improvements

Hey guys. Got my new to me XB9 not to long ago and have been able to spend a little time on it but not a lot. So far I really like the bike. But as always, there can be room for improvements.

So in the comfort department, are there any simple improvements that can be made to the bike?

It still has the stock grips but they are due for a replacement. Any good suggestions on that one? I like the fat stock grips that are on it now but are there any that are better?

I was not originally looking for a bike with a more aggressive riding position like the mine but when I saw the bikes condition and for what I paid for it, I could not pass it up. Are there any good comfort improvements that can be made to her? I have a pretty nasty lower back and so far it has not bothered me. But I was thinking that maybe bringing the bars up just a little would be a more comfortable on my wrist. Also when my girlfriend is on the back, her additional weight puts a lot of pressure on my wrist. So would a slightly more up-right position help or just leave it as it is?

So far I really do not have any complaints with the seat but I know there could be a better one out there. I also noticed my girlfriend seemed to slide forward a lot on it but she said she was comfortable. Any suggestions for making it better for her would be appreciated. She does not have a lot of riding experience and the only other bike she has ridden has been on my Dads big BMW sport touring bike. She actually likes the Buell better because she can get on and off it much easier than the BMW. I would have never thought she would have said that! She is also pretty small. Only about 5’2” and maybe 115 lbs wet. Not sure if her being small helps but anything I can do to make the bike better for her would be great because she really likes to ride with me.

Any other things you guys can think of, please let me know. I am new to Buells but I really like the one I got

You can get risers or a high bar. You can also get drop pegs that will free up some leg room. I thought my seat was fine until I switched to Corbin.

You can also install oem lightning pegs for a 1'' drop. There is also a company Knight something or another that makes 2'' drop pegs in multiple colors. I'm either going to go with the cycle pirates or LSL's but the Lsl's are the same as what you have height wise just cooler looking.

Those pegs look pretty cool but so far I dont seem to have a problem with my kees hurting. I am only about 5'7" so maybe that makes a big difference for me.

rigger: the stock "wrist-breaker" riding position on a firebolt can be annoying as hell for some, myself included. there is a german outfit that supplies lightning type upper triple clamp with built-in configuration for your ignition switch, comes with bars, bar clamps, hardware, and new brake hose. ABS also offers a riser kit to move the clip-ons up, comes with hardware and brake hose. another option is buy a used lightning or uly top triple clamp and get the handlebar clamping hardware with it plus a brake hose from a lightning. you'll have to improvise something for your switch but the cables and wiring will work for a low bar such as superbike bar.

I found the ROX Risers on line and they seem to be an average of around $80-$100. I did not see any that look like they were listed for an XB9. It looks like my bars have a bolt that holds them in place so I am assuming it is a tappered or possibly a splined fit instead of a pinch bolt to hold them in place. And the cost is not to bad either.

Does anyone know of a set of these that would work for my XB9? I dont mind do a little fab work or rerouting cables at all either. That stuff is easy to do. I saw some that looked like an inch or two of rise and pull back on them and that would probably be perfect for me. I was also thinking that would make things better for me when my girl friend is on thte bike with me too. Seems like a little more up-right position would help take some of her weight off of me.

Any thoughts on these?

One of the best things I've done on my bike is swap the stock rider pegs for the stock uly/lightning pegs. IIRC they have a 1" drop over the stock firebolt pegs. I'm a tall guy(6'4") and it made a huge difference. I use the slip on grip covers to give more diameter, it helps my hands/wrists. The seat is rough, other than that I am extremely comfortable and can ride my bolt all day(and do, often).
