Well I will always have my '08 XT. But as I keep going on my '73 Cafe Ironhead project I realize I don't want to keep that particular bike. It just doesn't fit quite right.

So I've been looking into other Buells and though a Lightning would be nice - I think I'd rather sample the 1125R. There aren't many around these parts... I've only ever seen ONE. So sourcing one might be a problem.

So 1125 guys give me the rundown of positives and negatives you've come across on that bike. And let me know if anyone has one for sale! I'm not in the market just yet. Have to get the '73 out of the garage.

I don't have one but, if I remember correctly the 08's had a some clutch leak and the 09+ had the stator/charging system problem.

Correct, the 08 model had the clutch leak issue. Mine has done it twice, but it has been a while since it happened last time. The 09+ models have the Stator issue which seems to bug most 09+ models about every 6K miles (at least according to thos I know with them) I do know a few people who have not ever had any issues with their stators though. either way, there is a fix for both solutions. The bike is great overall (IMHO) It takes a while getting used to, especially after having an XB, but I have almost 26K on my bike with fairly minimal issues. Still puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.

So you've owned both. Obviously one is air cooled, one is liquid cooled... one has a wacky ass crank pin setup with a wonky firing order... one is a little more evenly fired. What are the main differences in riding?

I love the way my XT rides. But it isn't what I'd call "sporty". It is REALLY comfortable and really easy in every situation I find myself in, even weird gravel roads.

I agree completely with agfish. I feel more comfy on my CR than my XB. The CR feels wider especially with the clubman setup. I haven't ridden an R yet so I don't know exactly how the handlebars feel on that. The 1125 is faaaaaasssst.

The 09 has the clutch weep also. It can be fixed with the EBR unit for $100.

As for the stator issue, you can get it rewound for around $150 and get the modded rotor from EBR.

Those issues sound like a "no big deal" kind of a thing. I am (very) proficient mechanically an even know people that wind coils - so I'm sure they can get the stator wound for me.

So far so good. I'd even consider the CR. I prefer the looks of the R, though. Basically I'd like the bike that is closest to the 1190 so when someone waves magic fairy dust around and 1190 kits start coming out I can have a platform to work with.

I was stuck on the R when I was looking at the 1125's but ended up with a CR.

The seller had both and when I called the seller assumed I was calling about the CR. He had sold the R a couple weeks before I called. It wasn't until I drove almost 500 miles and was pulling in his driveway that I found out it was a CR. I drove too far not to go home without a bike.

Now I am glad it worked out that way, I love my CR.

I bought a new (!probably the last one!!) 1125R 2 months ago. It was not running since 4 years, and I had issue with the clutch piston. Then I replaced ecm with the EBR one (race use only...), and now the engine runs perfectly. Great bike, I paid 6000 euros (7000 dollars) a vehicle that is better than one that costs at least twice. I recommend it. Hello to all

i am having the same problem with electrical charge.
We have been tested the charging system.
It says "low charhing voltage"

1125 CR 2009
3500 miles

I want to do something with charging regulator. as you know it gets very hot because of it"s place.
so i am thinking of to change it"s place to tail section, behind the battery.
did anyone do the same?
and could you people give advice what to do at all?

That would be interesting to see completed. I have an xb9r so no I have no info on it, but am interested to see you complete it.
