convert from lightning to uly tail?

im looking to get some info from anyone that might know the process of converting my existing lightning tail to a ulysses tail with seat and bags. i dont want to get rid of it but i want to be able to do more riding with more comfort. plus i have a girlfriend that would like to do more riding with me but cant stand the lightning seat for more than an hour. i have seen some postings from others that went from long to short lightning seat mod. so i know it will be a process. any help would be greatly appreciated

What Lightning do you have- does it happen to be an SS or STT? Those Lightnings use the same frame as a Uly, and the Uly tail will bolt right up (actually, the Uly tail IS a Lightning Long tail, with the end piece added to it!). If you have a standard lightning, then you will need to do some fabrication to make the tail line up proper.

well im actually not sure. i say that cuz i needed a frame puck for the left side so i called harley and just to be positive that i get the right piece, i gave them the vin (makes sense right?). so the guy told me i have a cg. so thats what i ordered. well when it got here it was too long. so then another phone call and half an hour later we were able to figure out what i needed. so my vin says cg but obviously the frame is not. i guess. i dont really know.

The 4th and 5th number of the vin tell you what model.

Don't remember who, but someone on here had posted a pic of a 2008 1125r with a Uly seat , the bike had a 1125cr headlamp.

I got a cg. I have known that the whole time. But what threw me was when I needed to order a frame puck. The one they gave me went to an 07 cg, which is what I had but when I got it, it was too long. That's when I started to get confused. And I went I've I with them and they themselves were confused why it was the wrong piece

yes, any of the Lightning Long frames will bolt right up (Ss, STT) as they use the same frame as the Uly.

I'm looking to do the same the my bike. With using the original ss side frame. So i can keep my original footpegs for the passenger.

Hmm.. I actually want to do the opposite - fit a short Lightning sub-frame to my Ulysses!

Hey, I saw your plan on Ukbeg. Looks good.
Cause i'm not a tall person i didn't bought a Uly.
This is my Ss with conversion. I've used the original Ss sub frame and did some modification. I only bought the trunk pan, saddle and rear end of an uly. I don't sell the stuff i didn't use in case i want to make it a Ss again. Good luck.
