CORDURA Jackets.... Good or bad?

That jacket scares me. Foam-based armor? No thanks. I'd rather shell out money for good gear for me and mine than save a few bucks on something that will most certainly not survive a crash.

http://leatherup.com/ provided my current jacket and chaps, I'm very pleased with them. I purchased Xelement buffalo hide, it is really quite nice leather. I have about 15k miles on the set and they look great, feel great, vented and insulated well.

Buffalo sounds sturdy...

Buellchick:the link showed me a variety of eBay options, not sure wich one in particular you was checkin.Make sure to do a little research on good internal armor-who's THE brand-I have a cordura jacket I use for winter(arlen-ness?)I never heard of them either.
I'll tell ya though ,it's tight! In a good way.
I can't imagine wearing my leather icon this time a year.riding for the cold & wet, cordura
is what I find best.
Otherwise,I've never gone down in cordura ,but I Know good leather with armor works great.

Check out www.newenough.com. They have textile gear from most of the reputable manufacturers, and also have a BIG clearance/bargain section.

hey Buellchick.. what are you looking to spend? and do you want something for cold weather, warm weather or somewhere in between?

i have a cortech denim jacket for use in the warmer weather like now and have found it great.I wear the cortech denim jeans with ce armour in the knees and the jacket has built in armour in the elbows and is really comfortable. The whole jacket is well thought out even down to a soft material around the collar and has heaps of zippered vents.I love it

I am looking for something that is both warm and colder weather... I do know that I want something that has some protection with shoulder, elbow and back supports/pads so if I do crash I am protected... I am looking price wise about $175 at tops... unless there is something really nice and I really want it. thanks for all the help guys.

I suggest craiglist if you don't mind buying second hand... Picked up my alpinestars full leather for $75 and couldn't even tell it had been worn before

+ 1 million on newenough.com. Great prices on really good gear. Check especially their closeout section for the best deals.
Cordura: make sure it is 600 denier or more (the toughness rating of cordura). Newenough will tell you when they think the armor provided with the jacket needs upgrading - it's usually the back piece that is a cheaper foam insert.
For toughness, kevlar is the tops (Motoport brand gear - pricy stuff...); leather is great, but I shed mine in summer for mesh, and bring the leather back out for other 3 seasons (good vents help - same as with cordura). Cordura comes in third. Look for good extra strength in impact areas, sometimes you see kevlar of 1000 denier cordura. Other textiles... not so sure I'd go for them. Lots of weird-sounding names out there, but Cordura is the real deal.
What style are you looking for? Racing? Touring/commuting? Waterproof important?
Here is one that is waterproof, 600 denier, kevlar reinforcing, knox CE armor... more general use and practical than race style:

or this one for only $65: http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/.../ladies_allure_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html

I hear good things about scorpion gear.
Never had any of the gear myself but the helmets rock.
worth a look at least.

I wear fully armoured one piece Dainese EVERY time I ride. It's ventilated but still hot as hell once it gets above 25C or so in the city. Once on the highway it's not a prob. It gets REAL cold around 5C. A good wind breaker over top to seal out the wind and all is well again. As far as leather to textile.....I've used leather at around 60 mph, got up, brushed myself off and walked away. Not so sure about the textile stuff, better to scuff up a cowskin than yours. Wayne
