Hey, what do you guys pay to get your tires mounted and balanced?
Do you buy tires elsewhere and take to a shop, or buy from the same shop you have mounted?

It's usually $20-$30 (maybe as much as $45) if you carry them in with the wheels off the bike. probably closer to around $70 per tire if you drop the bike off. I've been using Dyna Beads for balancing which I would highly recommend. I'm lucky to have a very Buell Friendly HD Dealer close by so I let them do it for me. They're cool with you bringing tires in from other places but I'd imagine some places are not.

I bring my wheels in off the bike and they charge me ~$40 to mount the tires IIRC. I am going to try dyna beads this go around, I just put new tires on my bike. I go to a local shop, the guy is a real good guy, knowledgeable, and fair. He's a bit pricey on some things like charging the same to mount or mount and balance, but then again he has done some small things for me for free like removing stuck bolts that I couldn't get out, and other things like that.

I tried doing the tires myself and holy shit that was hard. I will never do that again.

as sad as it may sound the harley dealer is the cheapest near me at under 30 per wheel if i bring them in and they dispose of the old ones. the other local shops charge ~45 per wheel and refuse to touch the bike itself which is not a problem for me but it may be for some. this includes the ducati/triumph/ktm dealer and a honda/suzuki/kawi/yamaha dealer

+1 on the No-Mar. The local hd shop quoted me $500 just for a set of corsa3's plus labor to install. I handed that info over to the wife and told her I could buy the machine for $500, tires for $240 shipped and the 2nd set of tires I'd be ahead of the game. Needless to say, I've been doing my own tires for a long time.

I found a local shop that does 80$ bringing the whole bike in, not cheap but at the time I didn't have the money for stands or know how.

$17.50 per wheel, flat rate labor charge only when removed from the bike, take them to the local bike dealer, not HD although they're a couple miles down the road from me

but you can buy the tires yourself and bring them to hd...thats what i do. I have a dumpster at my apt so lets say i could throw tires in there for free and not get in trouble. At $60 per year on install fees it would take 8+ years to get a payback for the cheapest machine that doesn't even come with a balancer. I think your ROI is off slightly due to harleys ridiculous price on tires. thrstrmech has it made at $35 a year. Maybe if some people have multiple bikes (which i know you do) and go through multiple sets a year it might be worth it.

We charge .5hr to mount and balance a tire so $35 or 1hr per tire if still on bike. No charge for tire disposal or wheel weights.

My local Harley stealership quoted me around $700 for a set of mounted stock Dunlaps. I laughed at him and told him I could buy my own equipment and much better tires, for less money. Which I did.

+1 on the Dyna Beads also. LOVE THEM!

As long as I buy the tires from my local shop, the mounting and disposal is free. If I remember correctly they charged me $3 a tire for the Dyna Beads.

damn. I got *gang raped* yesterday! $182. Southside HD in Virginia Beach. don't worry about me guys, I mean, I only just spent 1500 of my hard earned dollars with you on a full suspension for my bike... Thank you sir, may I have another!!!

This was, btw, a little more than $100 over what the parts guy told me last week that it would cost to have non-dealer purchased tires mounted and balanced. ridiculous. coulda gone somewhere else, I know, but I was already there, it was rainy and I was on my way to work. eff it. I'll find another place for next time, or maybe think about getting one of those No-Mar changers. I've read about others liking dynabeads. I'll have a look.

thanks for the feedback and input, fellas.

eff!

Never go to HD for mounting & balancing, learned that one...

There's a local VTwin shop that's been here longer than the local HD dealership, dropped the bike off with two tires and $75 and 35min later, walked out. HD priced me at $399 (that's with my own tires), I wonder if they were puzzled by me walking out laughing.

I need new tires when the weather warms up. I bought stands and I planned on buying the simple tools to do my own. The only decision now is to go with dyna beads like many mention or shell out a little more upfront for a balancer and wheel weights.

holy crap! $400?!? that's insane!

what?!? $20 front and rear? just mounted though, right?
$20 CycleGear San Franciscp, CA or Redwood City, CA

do we even need to balance every time?
I'm seeing the allure of Dynabeads now.
