Dropped my motor to fix an oil leak and I find this

5569_20121016114652_L.jpg

Crack going through the bolt hole of the center tie bar on the rear cylinder head. So now I get to replace the rear head and clean a hole lot of oil off the frame, fan and motor.

dammit man! that's a serious crack! [down] sorry to see that! guess that just means its time to get you a big bore kit! :D

same thing happened to me same spot, after i got hit my truck, insurance paid for it all.
Weird... Wonder what caused it and if it is a little more common then I was thinking.

Wish I could do the big bore kit but no extra funds. :(

my swing arm took a big hit, which torques the engine assembly. so that mount in the fins, itll crack the head right force right place. any history or potential history of going down/

Just thinking out loud, but maybe that's some what by design. Sort similiar thinking along the lines of crush points in automobiles??? Maybe cracking a head is better than other damage caused by those same forces? Don't know, just a thought.

Or maybe just a weak point in the head...........

I had made this thought as well, but it would have made more sense to engineer the dog bone mount to be the breaking point vs the head. I choke a little saying this but its gotta be poor design and engineering, mounting wasnt given much though here.

Ive since modified my dog bone to snap in the event of a hard twist.

Yeah I've taken a couple big hits like that going up/ down stairs... To much hooligan in me lol

Thanks squidbuellie! PM heading your way.

I'm assuming the extra strength to the mounts was added after the problems with the S1. If anyone knows about them they had problems with engine mounts snapping just from the vibration of the engine. They probably over engineered the mounting to not have to deal with those issues again. It definitely look like it took some force in a perpendicular motion of the bike. Any drops that you know of?

Heres the ever so slightly modded mount. I may have cut too deep into it and it might break. If it does ill feel it, get another mod it and install. So far so good. Id rather replace 20 of these than my head again.

I like that crash, not sure i would cut as deep but i might have to do that as well.

Ive ran mine this way since april about 6k miles. But i agree a little less depth on the cut. I need to buy a spare just in case
