CRG bar-end adapter?

Is there a reason that my stock 7/8" bars have the CRG adapter on them for the bar-end mirrors? This must be how the previous owner installed them, but CRG mirrors should clamp right onto the bars, right? You're supposed to slide the throttle up the bar to expose enough to clamp to right?

yea I guess, should've deduced that when I encountered the helicoil'd screw holes for the primary/clutch access hole cover...

I guess my question was, who has their CRG bar ends clamped onto their bars directly, and how does it work out. I'm not near my bike so I'm being lazy.
