Ddm tuning HID kit

Ordered mine today. $20 ground shipping seems a little steep, but bright lights are on my way!

Got mine installed..idk they just aren't as bright as I thought they'd be. Better than stock definitely but not too bright. Could the insides of the housings or the projector lens be dirty?
Or are all firebolt headlights just weak as fuck?

I read somewhere that the reflective "silver" inside some housings deteriorate..does this effect the firebolt?

I thought I read that was an S issue, but could be wrong. May take some pics and send them to Ddm and see what they say. Seems like everyone who's purchased them have been MORE than happy with the end result.

On another note, did you install a relay, or a switch, or neither?

Well I have a 2004. About as early as you can get with firebolts. Haha.

And I was going to run the time delay, but the local car audio store sold me a power SHUT OFF delay relay. The exact opposite of what I told them I needed lol. So I just ran a simple little illuminated switch next to the gauge cluster. Works well..just gotta turn em off when you get off.

The insides of my headlight housing was black...I painted it with silver 500degree paint. They're much brighter than before but I think 8000k might be a little high. More blue than white. Probably gonna get some 6000k and see how they are.

I too have an 04, and had the recall done on my bike for the bad headlights. The newer lights has a small bullseye/target looking raised ridges on the lens in the center. The older ones were simply a smooth lens. If yours were black on the inside, I'm guessing you had the old ones that the reflective coating burned up on.

The 6ks are as close to white as you can get with ddm.
Anything above is blue to purple, below is yellow.

I have the 6ks at 55watt, there is a slight blue tinge to them at the edge of the beams.

Has anyone had a problem with your DDM HID lights simply shutting off (completely) for a few seconds, then turning back on? I don't know if that is a symptom of the ballasts going bad, or if its just a loose connection somewhere...

i have the 55w 6k's on my 04 bolt. im pretty sure the coating on the inside it gone. its better than stock but not what i was hoping. talk to my local buell dealership, they said there was no such recall. and i do have the old ones. i dont run an extra switch or relay. i just let the low beam warm up then start the bike. the light dims but doesnt shut off.

i would say check your connections first. the only issue that i had was my high beam didnt turn on one day. started checking the wiring and switching the connections to the ballasts and lights. every thing was still in working order. for me it was a loose connection i belive. no issues since then.

Cutting out when starting the bike, or after the bike is already running? Cutting out when starting the bike is normal, although not great for the ballasts, since you're hitting the ballasts twice with a power-on surge each time you start the bike, and is why some of us install time delays on our HID setups. If it's cutting out after the bike is already started, then you've got something funky going on. I had issues with my HIDs cutting out intermittently while riding and traced it to a loose wire connection. I went back and soldered every HID connection where it ties in to the existing wiring and haven't had an issue since.

Yeah, it's while riding. Only started happening recently (after two years of owning them). I'll check the connections since I just did disconnect the ballasts recently.

Just an FYI....

My friend has DDM tuning HIDs on his daily driven car. He's had them ~2 years, with no problems. Just figured that'd be some good info compared to those of us who only ride seldomly.

My issue of the lights cutting out is fixed now. Was a grounding issue.

Still have the issue of the headlight, where the low beam used to be, cutting out due to the cranking over of the engine. Once the bike warms up though, I can just turn the bike off, then back on again to get it to work. Then the headlight doesn't take that kind of abuse and stays "on." I have it wired for both lamps to be turned on at the same time. I probably should just wire in a time relay? Any idea on where to purchase an inexpensive one?

I use a Wolsten Tech (www.wolstentech.com) headlight delay. Adjustable delay time (up to 2 min), works great and was easily installed. On my installation, I simply used switched +12V to trigger the delay when I switch my key on. I configured the delay to provide ground to both the hi/low lamps after the pre-set delayed time. Easy peasy. Everything fit behind my firebolt fairing, in between the hi/low headlight housings. I also filled the delay with epoxy to waterproof. Running on 5 years with it and without any issues.

If I remember correctly, I have the standard TDR version. I have my delay set to 20 seconds. I remember shopping around looking at other TD units, but some of the cheaper ones were either too bulky, looked cheaply made, couldn't work with the required amperage or didn't have an adjustable delay. As said in my previous post, I bought my Wolsten unit 5 years ago. There may be cheaper and even better made devices out there now, but there weren't that many options available that looked good at the time.
