I have a 2005 xb9r, im looking to get the 55w 8k kit from which, which type of bulb do I need to order? I'm looking to both high and low beam..... Thanks for any help you guys
can offer, you're all awesome! [up]

An R takes H3 bulbs.
8k is going to be VERY Blue, if thats what your looking for.

I read on their site the 8k 55w looks like a 6k, I just want damn bright, and to attract attention so no one will pull out in front if of me claiming they didn't see me.

I got the 6k 55w kit and they have a slight blue tinge to them.
I think its because of the 55w, rather than the 35w.
But they are bright, no two ways about that, love mine.

Personally, I'd recommend 5k color or even 4.5k. You lose visible light when you go above that, not to mention it does bother some people when it's too bright. I've had people swerve at me because of it, along with flashing their high beams at me. I have 35 watt 5k low beams only, they're really that bright.

Hardest part is finding a good place for the ballasts, and getting everything back together with two hands.

Took me maybe 45min, but I was taking my time.
Everything is pretty much plug n play if you don't decide to put a delay timer in.
If you've had your fairing off before, and know what to look for under there, I could see being done in 20min.

Dean is absolutely correct here. The higher the frequency, the less visible light in the beam (and the less our brains are capable of resolving what we see cast in the light). I know blue/purple are the cool colors to have, but they're really not incredibly useful.

Your best bet is to go yellow (3-4k) if you want maximum function. Short of that, 4.5k or 5k is going to give you a nice, bright, white light. I had 55w 6000k lights in my XB12Ss, and they were too blue for my tastes, and almost too bright for night time use behind other cars (I was blinding people all the time, not necessarily improving my visibility which is the end goal). Now, with my KTM, I have 55w 3500k low beam and 35w 5000k high beam, and I'm perfectly content.

The installed is rediculously easy. When I get home il post up some pictures. I don't have then on my phone.

I went with 3K yellow 35W's to maximize visibly non-blinding light. 35W HID's are twice as bright as 55W halogens.

I don't get why you guys want to blind oncoming traffic. Seems like a senseless provocation that's likely to get you pulled over but it's your call.

HID on the S high beam is useless due to the shape of the reflector. You really need "projectors" for the HID's. Low beam works ok.
