I hate the fact that some people ride like they belong in craftsman tool chest. I belong to a local riders FB page, and went riding with one guy from the page once, it was an old guy who definatly knew what he was doing on a bike! He was a skilled rider (or fearless and crazy....) well now that summer is here these guy's have been going riding a lot more together. I have not had the chance to ride with them due to a crazy schedule on my part. But after seeing their video's and hearing the stories of being given speeding tickets of 100+ MPH each time they go out I've decided that I wont be riding with them at all..... I know other people who aren't as stupid when it comes to riding on the public roads that I can have fun with!

This is very common here in San Diego CA. Not an attack on military but with all the bases in the areas, we have a huge population of squids, they form clubs, wanna be gangs, facebook pages, exclusive brand model even rank comes into play. Then local hipster squids ontop of that. We have a bad ass mountain here for riding (palomar mountain) and its no joke. Deaths there are common especially miltary. So its simply a good idea around here to avoid random meet ups with groups, cause chances are they will be searching for trouble, wreckless, in-experienced, or just a bunch of assholes. I love my Buell group, cause we arent exclusive and the people are generally respectable riders.

yea I was a little bumed out when they started posting their video's of group rides and I realized how they rode. I don't know to many people that ride where I live now. maybe only about 5 or so that I feel comfortable riding with. and between all of our work schedules its hard to set up a good ride.

not worth it bro... I have a few friends that ride with the local bike "gang"/ crew/ stunters called Section 518, and I stopped riding with a lot of them because it always ends up with everyone getting pulled over or police chases and dont need to be associated with that crap esp with my job in the military ect..

hit the nail on the head!!

I'm lucky to have a fairly large local online club to ride the mountains with.

We'll all play around a bit, but are not dipshits about it. Rides are usually labeled by pace: fast, moderate or newb.
Sometimes the ride will even be split into different paced groups and we'll just set meeting points for the group to re-gather at. Do the best to keep all rides in the mountains ATGATT. If you don't have at least jeans, riding jacket, helmet, boots and gloves; your asked to leave. If your riding at great danger to yourself or others, your asked to leave.

I have a pretty good friend who just bought his first bike, so we rode with him a couple times. Well the last time he almost got me into an accident and has a lot more to learn about riding in groups before any of us will ride with him again. He likes to ride in your blind spots (right behind your rear wheel or just off the side), and apparently doesn't know anything about riding in a stagger pattern. People that risk your life or your reputation are just not worth it.

First off I am NOT trying to pick on or debate what is right or wrong but this mentality is EXACTLY why I have rode by myself since I bought my bike 6 years ago. The street/public roadways have one way to ride. That is by the law and limits. NO exceptions. I wished everyone who did not follow these rules would lose their license immediately WITHOUT INCIDENT. You are raising the risk for your own danger not to mention the fact cars can not tell how fast you are going nor can they see you coming.

track riding is for the track.
street riding is for commuting and traveling.

It sucks because most sportbike guys ride like they have no repsect for life and most the cruisers are too cool to wear helmets. I consider all of you who fall into one of these catagories complete idiots.

You've never broken the speed limit, never gone faster then the recommended speed through a corner????

Has anyone in your group taken the time to teach the new guy how to ride in groups?

this is a good point.. sometimes you gotta take the new guy under your wing and show him the ropes so he doesnt hurt himself or others

Guess that makes me an id 10 tango. Dunno how ill sleep at night but I will try to make the best of it. Ride your rude and stay away from those who van cause you or your bike trouble. I don't stunt....but I will say they're fun to hang with.

I used to wheelie freaking everywhere... Like I literally rode everywhere on one Wheel no matter what we were doing... Now I only stunt or do anything like that on the roads here on the airport I live on that are not being used...

They have quite a few closed down roads with barricades that I just go around with a few of my friends and we can stunt it up and do whatever we want with absolutely no traffic or cops at all... Since this used to be an airforce base there are lots of unused buildings and roads...Some of the flightline personnel get a good show and drop by to watch and talk sometimes...

Those photos I posted yesterday with Me and the supermoto guy was on one of those roads... =) kinda lucky... But I laugh at some of the people that stunt on the roads around here because louisiana cops are crazy and HATE sport bikes in this town......

We've tried explaining the stagger positions, proper distance to follow at, hell, I even recommended taking a safety course to learn more about riding. I don't know why people don't take these safety courses, you can learn so much. In Ohio, we have the Motorcycle Ohio program, it's $25 and a three day course. I learned more than I thought I would, passed, got a certificate to get my endorsement right away, plus I saved about $75 a year on my insurance. Even if you've been riding for years, the course is very helpful. I tried stressing this to him, but it's like he thinks he's too good to take a safety course. I had fun tooling around on a 250 enduro for 2 days haha.

agreed NY has the same program but its like $300 ( military is paying for mine FTW!) but saves you 10% on INS and gets you your endorsement on the spot.. HELL im taking it july 13/14th and ive been riding for almost 10 years now.. you can never learn to much

I took mine through the military ... Got LOTS of practice doing super slow turns on my streetfighter which was actually very beneficial as it's something not very often encountered on a sportbike, the entire course itself is geared towards somebody who has never wrapped their hands around a handlebar so a lot of it will most likely seem kinda boring and "duh" to you but some parts really help to put alternative thinking to work ... the instructor LOVED my buell btw (he even offered to trade me a fourwheeler and some cash and even straight up cash for it when I turned that down lolol) ... I've been riding for almost 8, almost 9 years and I completely agree 100% with the above statement ... you can NEVER ever learn too much ...

... you can NEVER ever learn too much ...

I have a few friends they have 1-2 track only bikes and race and do several practice track days and they STILL go to courses and read riding books to learn..

pretty much safe to say unless your pro-status with sponsors racing the motoGP circuit, you dont know it all lol .. even then you prolly dont know it all

Very true. There is this new rider that lives in my neighborhood and when we first started riding with him he loved to stand up, hands off the bars, on the freeway! Also didn't know how to ride in groups, was always moving in between the other riders to get to the front. He always thought it was a race.

It's been a few months now and he is starting to mellow out. He took the rider safety class and I think that helped.

Just keep on reminding those new riders that in a group it's safety first. If they wanna ride like idiots, then they can ride by themselves. Hopefully it will stick. =]

On any rides that I used to lead up where I used to live I just used to tell them straight up ... "Unless their name is Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, or Valentino Rossi they are most likely not gonna impress me or anybody out there riding with us with anything they do on the street except a spectacular wreck and a ridiculous story about why they wrecked" ... Sometimes that gets it through that there's nobody here to impress with retarded or overly aggressive riding and they take the rides mellow and have fun just riding with the group instead of trying to act an ass and do something really stupid or wreckless to impress everybody ...

My buell is a long low rigid tuber, i couldnt get the front end off the ground if I wanted too. I live here in Albuquerque and if you want to ride at all during the summer a full jacket makes the heat unbearable when temps hover in the 90-100s. I wear a vest, gloves and only a half lid when I am going for a across or hoping on the highway. riding style has some influnce as I drag pegs taking a right turn. I love my bike and its my style, to each his own. I do condem reckless driving but dont lump me in a catagory because I take rides without full leathers
