Ding in my frame/tank

Had a spill and ended up with a 4" dent in my fuel tank on the large bulge just before the forks. Anyone know how to do a repair on that? I'm at a loss.

Too bad you didn't have them installed before, odds are you would've have zero damage. GL

or aluminum filler.

And even if he had them installed, if he had a 4" dent he would probably still have some damage due to transference. Seen bikes go down with pucks and still get that dent under them.

Once I had the spill I bought a set of pucks.

Who knew. Hadn't done enough research up front.

Rough way to find out that it might have protected it.

So insurance companies see frame damage as a total.

I guess I could find a replacement, I see a scuffed tank on Ebay... but I wonder if a simple automotive body fill and repaint would do.

post a pic to see the damage...are you going to try and repair or hide the damage? replace the frame? you can find replacement frames on ebay ranging from 250 to 1k. if you have the part number, maybe shop around between newcastlehd.com, surdyke.com, LSHD1.com, Buellsterparts.com, pinwall cycles on ebay, or simply google the part number to find the best deal on cost and shipping.

If just dented, you can *definitely* fill and paint. Metal filler is the right choice, but you can get away with plastic if it's not too bad of a dent. People do so often.

The paint varies by year and is a little expensive (not terrible) but is easily available from the online shops listed in thrst's post above. The rattle can blends extremely well. I've used both the phantom metallic and graphite gray - can't speak for the silver.

i had a similar dent on my frame and i used marine tex epoxy which is about as hard as fiberglass.
it looks pretty much perfect.
i did have frame pucks and low siding it still dented the tank underneath and the puck was ripped off by the impact.
i did the epoxy and paint and a new puck..no problem!
