I have seen the Rizoma belt guard and liked the way it looks, but I think they are pricey for what is essentially a piece of bent ally.
So I decided to try and make one myself. Firstly I made a mock up out of cardboard to get the shape right and the position of the mounting holes. I used plastic spacers to get the correct distance from the swingarm. Once I was satisfied with this I transferred the shape to a sheet of 2mm ally. I then cut this out with a jigsaw and filed the edges smooth. Then I bent the ally in a vice and offered it into position. After a few adjustments to the holes it is now done.
The white colour is the protective tape. I am going to paint it black and am thinking of drilling some holes in it to look like the heel guards.
Your comments please, good or bad?

I want it to blend in thats why I am going to paint it satin black. I have been riding without one for a while as I dont like the ugly original plastic one. but feel I should have something there for protection.

nice work, looks super clean [up]

I've been running mine without since the 09 hugger/upper guard is ginormous.

1stxb9r-nice guard, have you thought about anodizing it to match the wheels?

I dont want it to stand out too much thats why I am painting it black. I got my heel guards done in the same candy red powdercoat and think any more red would be OTT.
Thanks for the comments. I know the guard is not perfect but I believe in having a go before paying silly money. Plus there is always the feel good factor in knowing you made something rather than buying it.
It really was easy. The hardest part was making the cardboard template. All done without any specialist tools. Some of you may know I did the airbox delete too, which in my opinion is another easy diy mod costing very little.
So come on guys get DIYing and show us what youve done!!!
