got bored in the garage, again... so made some much needed shoulder bolts, cause didn't want to spend $4.82 for a screw! and would need 5 at a minimum, plus shipping:eek:

you can get this at local hardware store, got mine from True Value, total cost $7.70, already had the J.B. Weld.

what you need:

Aluminum bushings or tubing @ 5/16" O.D.
1/4" drill bit
1/4-20 x 3/4" Security torx head screws, stainless steel
1/4" I.D. flat washer, thin, stainless steel
J.B. Weld

Cut the bushings/tubing to 1/4" lengths to begin with, file down to proper height afterwards...maybe a 1/16" at the minimum. drill the bushing/tubing to size. held, the bushing with vise grips, don't over do it. apply J.B. Weld to the screw head base and threads. don't over do it. place a washer onto the screw and seat it onto the screw head, add some more J.B. Weld on the threads at the washer, again don't over do it. maybe go an 1/8" above the washer adding the J.B. Weld onto the threads. place bushing/tubing onto the screw and seat it to the washer. use a small flat head screw driver to clean the excess J.B. off. fill in the gap at the top of the bushing/tubing again, clean off the excess. set aside and let it cure.

Bravo.. nice work Robin! security torx, no less ;)

Any clearance issues, say, for a chin fairing with the dia. of the washer? (doesn't look like there would be, just thought to ask)

Me and a friend were just talking about using some tubing, or even throwing some bar stock on a lathe. We were just going to leave them loose though and not JB weld them.

thanks guys, the washer is roughly the same size as the original shoulder screw, but didn't check it against one. these are going on the R tail section plastics. the screw wells in the other plastics have plenty of room, so don't think there's a clearance issue at all.

thanks rchuff

...here is the comparison between the two screws, not bad for just eye balling it and the washer is slightly a larger diameter with no clearance issue inserting into the plastics, especially the chin fairings where the issue may have been
