i know old oil has bad stuff in it that is suppose to mess up your motor, but it seems that it would be worse to change it and have mosture form being wram/cold in the garage and then drive it with that oil in the spring.

I change mine before winter. the warm and cold thing in WI doesn't really happen until riding season, its just cold all the time

I change mine in the spring I'm in mich. and if I have a sunny day and the roads are snow free I'll ride

I am also in MI. I do not change mine, until I am ready to ride in the spring. No real reason behind why I do it this way, other than no one has given me a good enough reason to change it before winter. Change it in the spring and RIDE

The reason they tell u to change oil before u put it up is moisture. They want to get as much moisture out of the crank case as possible to prevent rust and corrosion.

I dont do it either and have never had a problem. I change it in the spring.

But: There's going to be no more moisture in old oil than new oil if the bike was up to full operating temperature the last time it was ridden. Any moisture that finds its way in after that is going to be condensation, which will occur with temperature fluctuations, even with new oil.

I don't change mine until it's due, because down here (NC), I'm probably more likely to ride in December than August.

new oil has a full dose of (akaline)? whatever neutralizes the acids that will build up during use. I've read thats not very gentle on the metal either. They say oil will have a more neutral PH with about 1,000 miles on it or so. I tend to follow this reasoning but I don't know for sho.
