I had a guy back into my Lightning and knock it over. Damage is kickstand pulled from case (case stripped), broken footpeg, broken carbon fiber fender and scratches to tail, swing arm and helmet. Guy was nice enough to give me insurance info but would rather pay cash. Not gonna screw around with scratches to bike and helmet but I do want new peg, carbon fiber and time serts to fix stand. Any good places to get peg and carbon fiber fender so I can bill him and time serts as well.?..Thank you

Sorry to hear :(

We can get you a CF fender from Twin Motorcycles if you're interested. PM me and we can work out the details.

Thanks!

google time sert, can get 'em at amazon, ebay, etc...

newcastlehd.com for the foot peg

ASB for the carbon fender...$229.95

Thank you all.

As for the time serts. Never used them. Do I drill out the hole and insert the sert? How large do I go?

+1 on giving your ride a real good second look. And screw that! I understand not wanting to be a douche, but you didn't hit his vehicle. My bike was in pristine condition before it was carelessly backed into...that will be the condition it is returned to. if it rubbed a sticker off of my helmet....I want the dollar to replace it. He's lucky enough you are going along with this and doing all the leg work----good luck, hey....at least you weren't on it

Report it to insurance. Engine case to replace bad threads should total bike out.
Total loss > market value at the moment.

Reduce the supply by another bike, brings value up :) basic economics.

It will get a real good second look but I would like to keep it if it just needs serts. Bike is in great shape and runs great too.

Does anyone know the size of bolt for kickstand to case?

Let me put it this way:
1.) Guy wrecked & got $3600 for an 2003 9SL with 22k miles, you can't sell them for that. I bought it back from insurance, fixed (clean title frame swap) sold 9k mile 9SL for $2900
2.) guy trying to sell good 2006 16k 9r for $3800, sat for 3 months, laid it down few weeks ago, insurance gave $4800, I bought it for $1550 buy back (my new track bikes)
Probably worth $3k
3.) takes the cake! I paid $2300 for a clean title 09 12R, sold to my buddy cheap for $3500. Wrecked it month later, calls me up to say buy back is $2k, but insurance valued it at $6k! He made more money on it than I did!

I know it's hard BUT Let insurance take it! Buy another one with insurance money, add some cool mods or take someone out to nice dinner with leftover money! (It's other guys fault, your rate doesn't go up, lay claim and get paid for add on parts)
"Mini jackpot"

My $0.02... But hey do what ya gotta do, I'd use the "free pass" card in my experience. If need it, buy it back. You get some money & swap a frame. Then ya ride around on a free bike :)

I would not mess around either unless you know the driver real well and is going to stand by what they say. Have had minor incidents where they say they were going to pay??? and that was years ago....

Ok, I've never done this before. Do I just lay a claim through my insurance company with the driver at fault? I have all of his insurance info but he obviously wanted to just pay cash and I thought that would be fine. Who comes to look at the bike and let me know if it is totaled? I do not know this person.

Contact your insurance company and give all the info. Let them fight it out, its what you pay insurance for.

If you are going to turn it in. Just call your insurance company, give them all his info that you have and they should take it from there. I am going through a total right now from me laying my bike down. I had to take my bike to a shop and get the estimate done. Each insurance company is different I am sure. Yours might have someone come to your house. I have state farm.

I went through his insurance company which is Progressive. They are going to have someone call to set up an appointment to come look at the bike, either today or tomorrow. My insurance was no help cause I don't have that coverage for my bike apparently.
