you also have to repack the drummer.
there is literally a million different ways to think about this becuase every single person is goign to have a different opinion.
but i shoudl be writing a paper for finals next week but ill stall and indulge in this one
first off, refer to the
exhaust shootout on asb. this is a good starting point when wanting to compare exhaust systems. although there are some discrepancies, there is a wealth of information
the drummer does require repacking, and so does the jardine. i have repacked a jardine before. i would NOT say its a difficult task or time consuming. its straight forward and will take about an hour or so.
i also know people who have repacked the drummer.
its difficult getting ahold of kevin for any technical support. ive been told by a few people. apparently he upcharges his repacking material substantially.
the jardine......some people say its down on torque, yes that is somewhat true. you can also try to a reducer cone on the inside to gain a little more back pressure and regain some of that torque. but if you look at the specs on the shootout, the hp is not that far off. the materials they used to try to keep weight down dont work very well with regards to reliability standpoint. the packing helps dissipate heat internally, when the packing is burnt out and not redone, internal temperature can actually destroy the muffler. or damage, destroy isn't the best word to use. but you will see rivets start to rust, heat spots on the can itself, and the muffler literally melting apart. this can all be taken care of by ensuring its sufficiently packed all the time. and you can try header wrap around the interal piping to further ensure heat exits the can.
the drummer will have a deeper rumble than the jardine. packing has a lot to do with noise level on both mufflers. less packign leads to a louder muffler. more packing will quiet it down for either one.
i personally would only run the drummer ss, since its made from one piece of stainless and welded at the seams. the regular drummer is modified from a stock muffler and is sometimes notorious for rusting. this is also due to the different metal on the rear bracket and band. not necessarily due to the muffler itself. so for me, only wanting to run the ss, i would either have to stumble onto a good deal, trade, or fork over 750 dollars for an empty can. and for me, thats just not goign to happen, based on
principle alone.
i ran a cf jardine for a while and had no complaints whatsoever, i did the interal reducer cone, and tuned it regularly for weather changes, and had no complaints with this muffler. ive been on a few bikes with the drummer and can say it runs relatively the same. i dont agree with the statement "the drummer runs better hands down". its more about how you tune the muffler to make power. they all run roughly the same, and sound roughly the same. some sound hollow and some have a deep rumble.
so in a nutshell you'll be fine with either. for me, price rules out the drummer ALWAYS. but you say price isn't the deal here, so you'll be ok either way. IMO
just tune em to run good
