I have an opportunity to buy either a used Jardine RT-1 or a new Drummer exhaust. Both for about the same money... lets just say cheap. Does anyone have a GOOD argument for one or the other?

I've had my Drummer on for almost 4yrs with no problems. Still sounds great. With everything I've seen on this forum I would rather go back to factory than put up with the hassle of a Jardine. Plus they look like it actually belong on our bikes.

Just my opinion though.

I like my jardine, it sounds nasty. Only thing is you have to repack every 5000-7000 miles

A lot of people talk the jardine down. I love mine!! Yea, u have to repack it.

you also have to repack the drummer.

there is literally a million different ways to think about this becuase every single person is goign to have a different opinion.

but i shoudl be writing a paper for finals next week but ill stall and indulge in this one

first off, refer to the exhaust shootout on asb. this is a good starting point when wanting to compare exhaust systems. although there are some discrepancies, there is a wealth of information

the drummer does require repacking, and so does the jardine. i have repacked a jardine before. i would NOT say its a difficult task or time consuming. its straight forward and will take about an hour or so.

i also know people who have repacked the drummer. its difficult getting ahold of kevin for any technical support. ive been told by a few people. apparently he upcharges his repacking material substantially.

the jardine......some people say its down on torque, yes that is somewhat true. you can also try to a reducer cone on the inside to gain a little more back pressure and regain some of that torque. but if you look at the specs on the shootout, the hp is not that far off. the materials they used to try to keep weight down dont work very well with regards to reliability standpoint. the packing helps dissipate heat internally, when the packing is burnt out and not redone, internal temperature can actually destroy the muffler. or damage, destroy isn't the best word to use. but you will see rivets start to rust, heat spots on the can itself, and the muffler literally melting apart. this can all be taken care of by ensuring its sufficiently packed all the time. and you can try header wrap around the interal piping to further ensure heat exits the can.

the drummer will have a deeper rumble than the jardine. packing has a lot to do with noise level on both mufflers. less packign leads to a louder muffler. more packing will quiet it down for either one.

i personally would only run the drummer ss, since its made from one piece of stainless and welded at the seams. the regular drummer is modified from a stock muffler and is sometimes notorious for rusting. this is also due to the different metal on the rear bracket and band. not necessarily due to the muffler itself. so for me, only wanting to run the ss, i would either have to stumble onto a good deal, trade, or fork over 750 dollars for an empty can. and for me, thats just not goign to happen, based on principle alone.

i ran a cf jardine for a while and had no complaints whatsoever, i did the interal reducer cone, and tuned it regularly for weather changes, and had no complaints with this muffler. ive been on a few bikes with the drummer and can say it runs relatively the same. i dont agree with the statement "the drummer runs better hands down". its more about how you tune the muffler to make power. they all run roughly the same, and sound roughly the same. some sound hollow and some have a deep rumble.

so in a nutshell you'll be fine with either. for me, price rules out the drummer ALWAYS. but you say price isn't the deal here, so you'll be ok either way. IMO

just tune em to run good

I'd go drummer even though I have a Jardine. Mine came with the bike and I've repacked it once since then. I like it but have heard a few Drummers and it make me jealous. A nice deeper tone if I recall.

Do you get all the mounting hardware for the chin fairing with the jardine?

I have the Drummer SS, love it. I also have to disagree about getting a hold of Kevin. I had a lot of questions via email before I purchased and even a few phone calls during and after. He returned every one promptly and was great to deal with.

I have Jardine. No probs as of yet. Ill keep it until EBR gets that preprogrammed KEDA Exhaust for XB's.

Drummer all the way!
I've re-packed mine before too.
It's the older style so I had to cut the cap off, pack it and weld it back (and re-paint it )
But the newer ones have a riveted cap which would make it a piece of cake to pack.

Drummer is deeper then the Jardine to me. Jardine is too raspy.
Just my thoughts...

I have a jardine and I love the sound. The only thing is I don't like the look of it on the bike. I would get a drummer because it has a great sound plus that stock look to it kinda. Plus it runs on stock mounts. Deal with Kevin, if it's the same price an in decent condition, buy the Drummer.

Pick name,
I have a xb12xt 09, so far I have tried Jardine, Hawk, spec opps, X's old chopped up can, and had my friend chop up a car can, forget the name.
I ended up with a Drummer don't get me wrong they are all good for one reason or another, but this drummer sounds just right, power is always when I need it & no re-packing needed.
I will be honest I want to try Keda, but I'm tapped out now.
Trying to rebuild again now from a lady side swiping me tring to run me over.
Has not been a good year for me.

I keep searching for used Keda on eBay so I can do a review on all, with some numbers me and my friend are keeping track of mufflers above.
There was one guy that was making his own here in ca but emails stoped after some people came to see his new muffler, I was juiced to think he was making it for our red head step child of the buell (xb12xt).
My 4 cents.

I was cleaning my newly acquired Firebolt today and was able to read the logo on the muffler. It's a Drummer. This is my first Buell so I have nothing to reference it to, but it sounds exactly like what I hoped a Buell would sound like. For me it's loud but has a great tone. I've always been particular about the exhaust systems on my cars, so I know what I like when I hear it. I'm not sure about the repacking thing, but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.
