Im really wanting to get both my lights running at the same time. I saw the thread on switching the wires on the cannon plug but when Ive attempted to free the wires from the plug it appears im just preparing to destroy the plug...or wire connector. Does anyone have any advice or a neat trick?

I've tried this mod on 2 different occasions...both times after a matter of no more than an hour my bike wont start and i get the clicking sound as if the batteries dead...i have u normal battery with no problems until i do this...anything im doing wrong?

I did the mod twice also before and after my S to R conversion and had to go back to the original set up, the low beam would always go out, both bulbs were fine...couldn't figure out what the problem was, battery was fine on both occasions...I have an '03 Lightning if that helps any, since it was the first year run of the xb line

I have an 09. I couldn't get the the wires to release from the plug either so i'm still doing the one eye ball thing.

I don't know how people have so much trouble with the plug. It literally takes me 5 mins to do, including removing and installing the flyscreen. I've done it on 3 bikes. Watch the gif in that thread i linked above. It helps if you understand how the plugs are seated in there

I have an 06 Ss and have had the same issue as described by Madisonm55 and I never leave my lights on without the engine running unless ofcourse Im starting it up, obviously... I went back to normal as well.

Kona had the right thread for this. I struggled with it at first, but when I saw Anrkizm's graphic with lifting the tang before pulling out the wire, it came right out with zero effort. You're not using a nail or whatever to force the wire out, you're using the nail to lift the tang THEN pull the wire out.

here's the link which takes you to that page with Anrkizms graphic. lift the tang before pulling out the wire. It really takes no effort, so if you are forcing something, you're doing it wrong.

Page 8, graphic 1/3 way down the page

Just clip the 2 wires involved, cross and reconnect with crimp connectors...SIMPLE!!!

No don't add another connection that can fail. Especially crimp connectors. I guarantee i can switch the pins faster than you can cut strip and crimp connectors

my issue wasn't with the connector, that was easy...the set up failed with my bike on both occasions

the back of your service manaul shows in detail how to remove the pins from the connector as well

Yea thats weird it causes an issue with some bikes. Maybe they have a weak stator or vr issue. Ive put over 15k miles like that and know several people who run it like that personally. And there are 8 pages of people with positive experiences and a handful of negative. Idk what to think about that.

I look at it as being a first year run of the xb model line up, just like cars the first year run always have glitches of some sort, then the following year it's been improved and so on and so on, I'm good with it the way it is...that single 4" light on highbeam does the job it's meant to do, even the single firebolt highbeam did so as well, working nights for the past 3-1/2 months using clear and smoked face shields changing back and forth

I thought the firebolt was both on from factory. Regardless someone above reported a problem like yours on a newer model year. Fwiw mine is an 04.

yeah, they were...mine was a S to R conversion which I swapped the connector from the R headlight harness from male to female which made it plug 'n play rather than cutting the wires and installing blade or bullet connectors, kept it OEM

To begin with, I can clip, strip and crimp those wires in a minute or less. So what's a few seconds here or there. I agree that ,ideally, it's better to not have additional connections, but my point is that some people are struggling with those OEM connectors and it's easier for some of us to deal with other more familiar connectors (especially those of us with age who struggle with vision working in small tight places). I've never had a failure yet with crimp or other types of connectors (KOW)...just have to be careful and do it properly.
