EBR Exhaust with an extra?

SO when i found out the Exhaust was a race Exhaust i cleaned her up and put a couple new coats of paint. But it has been pointed out that there is a Extra hole one the Nose of this Exhaust.. Can u See it?? OK so i come to the Mighty XB9 and XB12 community and ask What is this for, GO!!!

My Guess was for a Exhaust sensor or temp gauge...

Kinda hard to tell with that pic, but I would think an exhaust temp gauge would be a very logical guess. Either that or the mounting bracket broke of completely perfect.

That was a mount for the chin fairing, just like the one still there, need to get that fixed/plugged

My guess is the P/O wanted a louder "custom" exhaust and had a drill handy. Couple beers an hour in the garage and wala, custom exhaust.

Oh wait I figured it out...that's where you fill the muffler bearings.

It is a perfect cut hole, i will take a better pic of it.. as far as i can see its empty right behind it..

Originally, I do believe there was some packing in there.

It won't keep you from mounting the chin fairing but I would try to repair it(weld a patch) to keep moisture and debris out of it.

not much info on the Race cannister, by the photos Ive seen the hole side originally, just looked like the other side with that lug on it. I think cutting a hole to get it to sound louder may be right. I would just make a little hand made sheet metal cover and hammer it into shape.. then just stick it on there with JB weld and re-paint the nose of the thing.. I may have had packing in it as said but I wouldnt bother with that.. Id just seal that hole.

Thats not a factory hole, there should be another mount there for the chin fairing.

I had an idea while looking at that cannister.. that black would look even better with the exhast tips painted silver, I think..

I reinstalled the Pipe today and went for a long ride with my buddys, I sent some pics to a friend who is on a Bike Race Crew.. I waiting for his responce.. Man i love these Buells.. Im gonna get another one ane completley rebuild it with coustom paint and powder coat.. Big bore the whole Deal!!
