Can anyone advise me please. I'm trying to reset my TPS. I connect SPY and got some erratic TPS reading changes on adjusting the idle screw but no real time indication while adjusting and no sign of any movement on the RPM gauge in overview if I turn the throttle. I googled TPS sensor testing and found that I should get a resistance change between the orange and green wires, orange and black & black and green when turning the throttle. I got no resistance change between the black and green so I have removed the sensor but it seems pretty solid state so no choice but to clean up, check all connections and replace.

If I disconnect it and run 'trouble-shoot', it Spy tells me that the TPS is shorting to ground and when I reconnect it, it gives me no trouble codes. This all seems correct.

Would I be correct in thinking that it is not working and do I need to buy a new one?
 
If it gives you no trouble codes when connected it is working, if you disconnect it should throw a code like it is( bad ground). Did you click on the two keys above the overview tab? You should have ignition key on ,starter switch on, now click on two keys above overview tab.

Now I see the throttle response on screen. Still not quite there.
I turn fully clockwise then anti-clock until it reads 0.0 then a few more turns ant-clock.
I then do to diagnostics and do a TPS reset.
When I then go back to overview, i turn anti-clock to try to get back to 5.1% but can only reach 3.1 before I reach the end of the thread.
Am I doing something else wrong?
 
Ok, I turned it further anti-clock and reset again, now when I turn it back I can get 5.1% as it hits fully turned in. Hope I'm doing the right thing.
 
Great, now my starter won't engage to test it. Going to have to charge the battery in the hopes that that helps.
 
When doing your tps reset make sure you watch your voltage go down till it stops declining then go 1+2 turns out ( bottom right of screen) then go to tps reset hit button, then turn screw in till you hit 5.5 degrees and not % . Start bike let it get op temp ,when it goes from openloop to closedloop adjust your idle to 5.1% should bring you to 1000 rpms.
 
make sure your cold start enrichment is below or at 100 before adjusting to idle speed( very important.) Hope all of this helps. [up]
 
Thanks rchuff. I should be so lucky as to simply start bike. After about four months of owning it, I have not yet managed to coax much life out of it. The battery is on charge right now so I am leaving it for the day but will certainly re-check all items as you advise. Many thanks, John.
 
SUCCESS! PURRING LIKE A TIGER. Now to put the small bits back on and I can actually ride it for the first time. Got be careful with new front tire, front pads, rear pads and rear disc, not to mention the hail. So happy.
 
Thanks rchuff. One very careful ride around a few blocks in the wet. Made it all DIRTY. Now just hoping for the sun to come out tomorrow.
 
Tried to take it for a roadworthy test today to get the transfer finalised. Didn't even make it into the test area. The testing man came rushing out to tell me to quieten the pipe down and come back. Spent the evening stuffing aluminium scouring pads down the pipe. Went next door to talk to CBF about calliper refurbishment on the Karmann Ghia I am rebuilding and he shut his shop down to bring his entire staff to look at the bike. The customers were walking in confused circles. They loved it. One called it a 'work of art'. Very satisfying. A traffic light vendor also made sure to catch my eye to give me a thumbs-up.

That weight lowering really is tangible. Being used to a high and hard motard, the low cog really can be felt. Almost don't need to put your feet down at standstill. Getting really comfortable on the bike really fast and it seems that I have managed to tighten all of the bolts because there have been no surprises.

Loving it.
