Hey guys, so I bought the ecm spy and cable off ebay a while ago and have tried setting it up several times but am having no luck. I know there are a lot of ecm spy questions on here but I've read through them and the tuning guide and I'm not having much success. When I hook it up here's what mine looks like

From looking at others it looks like there are supposed to be more tabs at the top after trouble codes. Like maps, other maps EEPROM? Any ideas on how to get this right cause I'm struggling with it? I've tried resetting the com ports but that doesn't help either.

You mentioned resetting the COM ports, but here are a few things to re-check:
1. Does your cable show up properly in Device Manager? No ! marks?
2. Your ECMSpy version is old and unsupported...but go to Options->Communications and verify the COM port for your cable is selected.

If the above is fine, then it should say "COM: x opened" at the bottom status area. Can't quite make it out in your pic. If you've done that already, just let us know.

Yep, device manager shows no "!" and I have the communications set to COM1 and nothing.

My version came on a CD, should I scrap it and find an updated/supported version?

You have to change in the option tab ( or view i don't remember) to professional to get all the tabs your looking for. if your speaking about the fuel maps and more options.

I have the tabs now, thanks!

Ready xb, yes it says "COM: 1 opened" at the bottom BUT to the right of it it says "16:32:58 COM: Transmission timed out!" I can't fetch any of my stock maps or see any vitals? I'm assuming the numbers are just the time of error but any ideas of the timing out?

Definitely check your cable! Check that all three pin sockets are flush with the end of the plug.

I was checking the wires out and sure enough one of them (yellow) pulled right out. Can I reopen to connector or should I just get a new cable?

It can be a challenge to remove the pins, especially when the front wedge lock is installed, but give it a try! They are designed to lock in securely :) I would suggest watching this youtube video starting at 3:18.

FYI: I sell cables. Good luck on the repair!

Unless you have a soldering iron and solder, crimping it back is about your only option.

Ready you da man, got it crimped on and works like a charm. All this time I was dicking around with the software when I didn't even think to check the wire. Once I get back this weekend it will me time to do some tuning!
