First time actually plugging into my ECM. I followed the instructions from the tuning guide and performed a TPS reset. In the guide, it says that proper tick over will be around 5.1%. My 04' XB12R doesn't tick over well till about 2.4%. Is this normal for anyone else?

Also, my bike seems to run very lean. What is the simplest way to correct this problem in ECM spy? Thanks!
 
If your only at 2.4 you need to go up. mine runs good at 5.5 but every bike is different, let the bike warm up until the cold start enrichment is at 100% then set the idle at 1050, mine hangs at 1050 so I set mine a little lower.

Data log with Megalog is the only real way to get a good tune otherwise your shooting in the dark.

What set up are you running.
 
Thanks gator. I have xb12r with race exhaust race ecm and open air box. I am now thinking I did it wrong. Do I need to back the idle all the way out or just until ECMspy shows zero? Maybe that is why mine is so low.
 
I had a issue the first time I reset my tps with spy, The bike ran like crap. I had backed it out too far for the zero. I reset it again, not just back it off I opened the air box and looked inside at the butterfly, when it was completely closed I zeroed it out at that point. It fixed it and the bike ran normal again. Hope that helps.
 
I'm basically the same setup, 12s with full race kit, and open airbox with K&N...I'm waiting to get my cable and disc with software in the mail. Could you guys elaborate on what your numbers are for, for someone who's new to tuning, etc? Maybe it'll be clearer when I'm looking at the interface. I understand lean vs. rich, and the concept behind tuning a little but could use anything you think would help.
 
Make sure the throttle stop is all the way backed off by backing it off until you get to the lowest number and it quits going down, then back it off another turn. It might not be zero if the last reset was done incorrectly. Snap the throttle a couple times to be sure. Now reset the TPS. You will have to re-establish communication,(keys icon) then turn the thottle up to around 5-ish. All that is is a number to start with so the bike will be close when you go to start it. The whole goal here is to give the ecm a reference of zero with the throttle blade completely closed. That's all. Set your idle to whatever speed you like and don't be too concerned about the % shown unless it is way off as yours is as that means something was done incorrectly. Mine shows around 3.7 or so and idles around 900-1000 rpm. Factory idle is supposed to be 1250 I think.

1050-1150 is Fact. Recommended setting. Most XB's are happy around 1000.

Edit: Any higher and most tend to have "RPM hanging" after letting off the throttle.
 
Thanks for the correction, brain fart here... now I remember 1050. 1250 is max rpm, right? Kidding, of course...

Bike MUST be off... Well it will die regardless when you back the idle screw all the way out and the butterfly closes... ;) But I would just stick with the ignition in the on position, and the engine NOT running...
 
when the screw is backed all the way out and you go to adjust should the numbers on the screen adjust as you screw it in? also is the screw reg lefty loose right tinght or reversed .
 
OK because for some reason when I have the bike connected when i go to screw the adjuster in the numbers on the screen don't change. but it definitely recognizes the bike as being connected.
