Hey y'all. So its probably not known but I just got my first Buell right before winter hit and I am now just getting able to tinker with it. I wanted to do a TPS reset with EcmSpy and found a download from another member so I downloaded it.

I open Ecmspy and connect the cable to the bike. Turn on the ignition and engine switch to run. I go to the communications tab and hit auto detect for Com Port. It seems like it detects the com but I get an error message at the bottom of EcmSpy. The bike has an EBR Race ecu and D&D exhaust that I am going to assume is matched with the ECU but I do not know for sure. Here is the screenshot of the error

Well I guess the screenshot didn't work. Don't know how to fix it but the error message displayed says: COM: 0 Error. Com: 2 Unable to open COM port! Error: Invalid Part Number.

In the communications tab, there are not port numbers listed in the drop down hence why I do an autodetect. The Version of Ecmspy I have is V.1.12.27. I am using a windows 8 machine.

What year bike? Also ebr says the ecms do not work without their software.

Right click on "my computer" select "manage" look at devices and see what if any comport had been assigned to the cable. If their isn't the cable listed the driver isn't installed or not installed correctly. I haven't used ecmspy with Windows 8 so I can't say what driver works.

I use ecmspy on my ebr ecm. I do tps resets and diagnostics, you do NOT want to do anything else other than that with ecmspy on an ebr ecm.

drev500 I connect threw the com port on laptop with cable to plugin under front fairing have xb12r . I have windows 8 on my laptop.

I had my bike connected successfully halfway through TPS reset and as soon as I click reset TPS my bike magically disconnected and won't connect no matter what I do and I'm getting the exact same results as the OP. Pisses me off because it was working fine right before without doing anything special to get it connected. Just plug in, turn key on, kill switch on, open ECMspy and it was working

Interesting ^ Same exact thing happened to me. I have an 07 and did a reset on it awhile back. Now i get the 'cannot detect comport' msg. Frustrating.
