ok.i am interested in making a latus out of a edelbrock rpm series tru-flo(would rather d.i.m. than pay someone)does anyone here have any experience in doing this conversion? if so any photos of the process, dyno sheets, noticable gains,no gains,do's - dont's,any info would be helpfull in making my decision.thanks.

is the edelbrock the only muffler that has been used in doing a conversion? and why the edelbrock? will the edelbrock std series fit, hard to find a rpm series anymore.

i got an rpm (the one used to make the latus) off of ebay. i"m in the process of gathering parts for it. a local muffler shop has tube for the inlet & an assortment of different tips to choose from. i"m going to fab some brkts. for the chin spoiler at my work

what did you pay for the rpm? does it have a number stamped on it? if so what is the number? edelbrock does not carry this rpm any more/maybe with the number i could see what they replaced it with. anyhow, post pics/notes of your build.

First low res. pics are of the Edelbrock in original form, notice the bottom image how the chambers are "textured" on the inside. Not sure if the newer Edels are this way or not. Last image is of the Latus in finish form.

All of this, including pics came from an older Ebay listing....hope the dude doesn't mind.

1)Cut off the factory inlets, weld on the chrome tips and inlet (made by any shop with pipe bending capablities.)

2)Cut off your factory XB muffler chin spoiler brackets, weld them into the correct spots.

3)Fabricate a front and lower mount for the chin spoiler.

4)Weld everything together, paint it black.. Done!

the edelbrock #5504, says edelbrock rpm series, tru-flo stamped on it. 2.25 inlet& outlet. i paid $85.00 w/ shipping. i figure i'll be into it about $150.00 when its done. should be a fun build.also, i heard that they used this one because it was narrow. it fits in the stock clamps perfectly.

yes it does fit perfectly the only thing you need to be concerned about is how far back you put it

it sounds great I used the jardine brakets so that i could keep the chin piece. I have an extra set of brackets[cool] I am in to it 100 dollars in parts and 12$ in beer

do you have a pic of the front where the front strap (clamp)is or did you not use one, or? thanks for the picture.(where can you get jardine brkts?)

also buellboy, how does it sound? luckly i am already running a jardine so i have the clamps

It will be harder to find an Edelbrock 5504 or 5514 (same muffler, but has a flange welded to the outlets that you will cut off anyways) I paid right around $40 shipped for my 5514 from edelbrock's closeout site.

Some guys on another forum are using a MagnaFlow 11148 muffler. It's about the same thing, but the muffler length is a few inches shorter so if you have a jardine turndown pipe, you have a good head start.

As previously mentioned, you have to watch how far you push back the edelbrock. As Latus built their exhaust system, they had custom tailored turndown pipes allowing both factory buell straps to attach to the muffler. If you use a jardine with the bracket attachment or other stock bend pipe for the turndown pipe, you could run into the muffler and rear tire fighting for space. I still haven't had the time to work on my "latus" project, but have even thought about cutting off the dual outlet chamber and having a 4" shorter single outlet and find something interesting to come up with on the exhaust tip. (you can look into the dual tips and see an open chamber with a single outlet about 4" deep into the main muffler.

anyone hear anything about this magnaflow ,the number is 642-11148 on there website, runs about $75 for the can.

the can is stainless steel with 2 1/4" inlet and 2" outlets. single inlet, dual outlet.3 1/2" x 7" oval body.body is 14" and overall length is 20" price is $77.99 go to www.jegs.com upper right is a part number search, put in 642-11148. would like to hear one on a buell or see some dyno charts.

the muffler sounds deeper than the jardine its a little quieter at idle but way better under a load

I used the braket of of the jardine and mounted it to the front of the motor. better torque and response I am trying to post a sound clip on youtube

not sure if you guys have read the report that ASB did on the various types of exhaust options for the XB's...
ASB Exhaust Tests

Since the Latus exhaust is essentially the Edelbrock exhaust modified by Latus HD, the numbers that ASB reports for the Latus should be pretty similar to what you would get doinging it yourself. They don't have anything on the Magnaflow so not sure what to tell ya there.. but at least this will help with numbers graphs and sounds on the Edelbrock/Latus.

Interestingly... I couldn't help but notice that on the XB12, the best results came from the Buell Race exhaust and most of the others were pretty notably lower in either Power, Torque or BOTH..

i uploaded it to you tube key words are buell latus.

I do not know how to set up a link but tell me what you think

buellboy007, thanks for the vid. i'm going to work double time on mine now. yours sounds bad ass!
