Just wondering if you guys a lil insight before I take it to my dealer.

I've been having this issue that started this week. My engine light comes on usually after I get into 2nd and 3rd gear then disappears. The previous owner installed the race ecm so I hooked up the spy cable and didn't see any trouble codes. The bike seems to be running fine but I'm probably still going to take it in.

Any clues on what's going on???...

Jay

Mine was doing this with a faulty tip over sensor. Might not be your issue but try unplugging it and see what happens.

jay: very difficult to diagnose or suggest possible culprits since you gave no model (9 or 12) or mileage info.
slight mis-firing of one or both plugs that is so subtle it wouldn't be noticed by the rider can temporarily activate the CEL yet not leave stored code. a sticking or hesitant active exhaust valve will also do the same. an improperly adjusted exh. valve cable can as well.

Sorry, It's a 09 xb12scg with around 7500 miles.

Yeah I'm hoping it's something as simple as a faulty plug rather than a bigger problem...

I assume Jay that you are talking about the red light right, or is it the yellow check engine light?
If it is the red light, Hows your oil level/pressure?
I notice on my 09 Uly that right after I crank my engine just before it starts my red light winks at me as it fires up. Drove me crazy when I initially noticed it. I am not an expert but it appears that when the starter spins the motor it builds up oil pressure to turn the red light off, but as the starter fights the compression just before it fires it slows the engine down enough, as if to lower the oil pressure for an instant to wink the red light at me. I do not look to see what it does as I am shifting though I never noticed a red light other than when the key is turned on before starting, as it should, then the winking as I described above.

holy hell jesse...i stand corrected. never saw it on any of my lightnings....just my Uly. now get some slippers on before you get foot frostbite.:D

***Update***

So it was my stator that was going bad, finally confirmed by the burnt smell. took it in to get it replaced as well as the voltage regulator. took a lil while since the VR was on back order but I finally got it back last night. Glad to have my black cherry in the garage, too bad it's snowing right now [sad]
