So i had a woman back into my firebolt and knocked it over. she (and her husband) are looking to settle this with out insurance. i so far have found, a busted clutch lever, bent shifter, scuffed mirror, scuffed frame puck, scuffed signals maybe more. Question is, settle without insurance or get an estimate and turn it in?

Since its their fault your insurance wont go up. Make them give you 300$ or turn it in lol.

yea if they are just willing to pay for it there is no need to get insurance involved. fixed is fixed, let them make it right without getting screwed over by their insurance.

this excat same thing happened to a friend of mine got his firebolt knocked over. take it to harley and have them give you a estimate. DO IT THROUGH THEIR INSURANCE! he got 3000 for a bent clipon. think about it harley charges 100/hour for service! you can get a nice check back for some scratches!!

if the people were willing to pay the full amount of an estimate its really no different. if they say no thats too much then go to insurance.

Yeah im thinking the insurance maybe the best bet. The husband seemed like a shit bag. Literally the first thing out of his mouth was 'we don't need to involve the insurance company' I think he's worried because it a company car that hit my bike

i swear! these guys backed into it. my coworker got the police and they got there insurance, they wanted a quote from harely so he took it there, and harely gave him a quote for every little thing that was wrong seriously every little thing, with his bike, plus they added there service charge for how long it will take to fix. he gave that to the insurance company and they had to cut him a check. i was suprised it was so much and i know your thinking he probably had a shity bike before but it wasnt i do all his service and it was nice.

theres the story thats what i would do

I have had two Non-isurance involved instances, one fender bender with an old truck my ex-wife was driving and another a good friend had a bumper hit by someone in a parking lot. Both cases ended up bad for my ex and my buddy in the long run.

I would just go through the insurance and do what needs to be done, the insurance legally had to cut you a check if that is what you request as then you can fix the bike to how you want whether it be at the dealer or in your garage.

Insurance is there use it.

make the claim today. protect yourself let them deal with the repercussions. if you don't it will end bad and you will be pissed.

This same thing happened to me last year.

My bike was parked in front of work, gets backed into by "an old guy in a brand new Escalade" from what the guy in the editing studio downstairs tells me, who saw it happen and got his plate #. The people in the escalade actually got out picked my bike up and put it back on the kickstand, then drove away.

Ends up it was the owner of the builder our office is in...lol, ontop of that his family owns an insurance agency... double lol.

So I call the cops, give'em the plate number and they bust him eating lunch a couple blocks away with the manger of the building no doubt. Charged with hit and run un attended. He comes to my office to talk to me a few days later and wants to settle w/o insurance, AND have me sign a paper his attorney drew up stating I wouldn't press any sort of charges or claim any further suits against him.

So I took the bike to the local HD shop and got a $1,500 estimate for what is essentially exactly your damages. Told him I wanted that in cash and an extra $500 for my rental car as at the time my bike was my only mode of transpo and for being such a dick and trying get away with that shit. He paid up. Karma.

Cost me $250+ and a couple hours of labor to fix it myself.

Insurance is there use it.
agreed!

For those who have insurance, you pay/paid for it. Use it! What else would you be willing to pay for and get nothing in return? Further, you have a paper trail if needed.

Lawyers are wicked!

i like thalocs story. one of my best friends is a harley master tech. hes who i am taking it to for the estimate. we will see what he comes up with :) i called her insurance company. turns out she works for the company and it was a company car she hit my bike with. of course the insurance company is closed until Monday so we will see what happens!

ALWAYS report accidents. these people will wait a while, then try to weasel out of it. if you report it to the police, they cant weasel out of it. i have seen time after time people swear they will make things right and time after time i have seen them try to weasel out of it.

Just noticed my fairing mount is broken. Thought I'd found everything after my crash last October. Guess I missed that.

Get my point?

My bike, in the crash the year before, (gee, I sound like a bad rider) went through the insurance.

The bike was actually totaled according to the shop. The insurance company really appreciated that I didn't care too much about scratches. They forgave the accident.

Yeah, get the shop estimate, he pays. That'll be the first clue to how far he's willing to go.

So i took my bike to the HD dealer. My buddy looked over it. Almost $700 worth of legit damage for a knock over. Unbelievable.
