Wow, That is a pretty wild article. DANG IT! I would have loved to have a Buell dirtbike! I had heard (from dealers) the v-rod motor came from porche or ferrari. Liars. They really are a stealership! That whole thing just blows me away.
The V-rod engine, received engineering, and manufacturing help from Porsche, but Eric stated that it was supposed to go into his bike, but HD decided that Volume of production would better fit their product.
No question about it. I wanted a vrod in the worst way but after I rode one I said no. I wouldnt turn worth a crap - (drag bike ergos) but the street rod was a whole lot better. But I like my 1125R waaaaaaaay better.
I believe the vrod motor came about just like the 1125 motor only it was porsch not rotax. Then HD rearranged the externals to fit a heavy cruiser at which point EB had no use for it.
I felt that that article was more discouraging than anything. It ended with a "I want to make another bike someday" feel to it. I want to see some goals damnit! Get some god damn investors, hire some more people and do it!
"They had 137,000 Buell owners out there to sell parts to, and I think the parts business over the next 5-7 10 years will be a profitable business" - Erik
Dang! Wish he had more faith in the quality of my bike... that he built
He's not saying anything about the quality. I still believe that the XB's are one of the highest quality bikes out there.
EVERY brand out there makes a killing selling parts. It doesn't matter if its a car, motorcycle, television, or a toaster. Parts and service are always a very very lucrative business.
