Erik's New Bike (1190RS)

I have not seen this specific article before, but the 1190RS has been posted before. Oh well, good find. there is always something new in these articles... and yea, the English is a bit rough.

A dealer near me has one on hold for his shop. He said it could be mine for the low low price of 45k. He's wondering if he'll be able to unload it for that price.

carbon fiber over load, carbon fiber over load.. i hope erik is just burning up his 1 year no compete contract and then after that runs out comes up with something new. because carbon fiber and a under slung muffler with another carbon fiber muffler on the side is lame. don't get me wrong the bike looks cool at a glance but nobody would pay that high of a price tag for a 1125r with a whole lot of bolt on goodies

$50K? I bought 2 new Jeeps for less than that in September last year.
Granted, I could never ride one of those even if I could afford it.
Nice bike though.
Ditto on the really bad translation.

The dual cans is for EPA reasons. He explained the 1190RS in great detail at the benefit breakfast in Daytona. It isn't a hot rodded 1125. I believe there were very few crossover parts from the 1125 to the 1190. I would venture to say the engine cases are the same! The internals are all different. The frame is different as a large portion behind and below the neck has been removed to increse air capacity to the oversized air box.

As for the price, sure it seems hi however it is on par with a hi end Ducatti. The RS is very close to race ready, remove the exhaust and add the race exhaust and tune, change the cylinder base gaskets and you have a 187HP bike at the wheel.

Obviously not for the general consumer but for the rider who wants something unique like a Bimoto or other super exotic. Sure they can be beat by other bikes but if $45K is no big deal to your budget, why would that person care?

for sure

don't forget ama rules:
No Carbon Fiber so add on another $2,500 to that $45,000-$50,000 price tag for all new plastic.
like i said looks cool he'll probably sell one to jay leno other then that it will be a short order, 4 max

This is like the 7th post on this.

Thank you, Someone who "gets it"! Tired of the ignorant post on the subject and knit-picking.

The 1190RS in all the pictures is the Limited Edition (not sure what he calls it). The standard 1190RS comes with glass body work, and is CHEAPER then the carbon beauty in all the media pictures. There is also a non-street legal all race version available supposedly as well.

1190RR $44,900
The 1190RR is the first new motorcycle from Erik Buell Racing. Based on the 1125R and 1125RR, the 1190RR brings engine displacement close to the AMA American Superbike (ASB) class limit for twins and the WSB limit overall. Although it is not currently approved for AMA ASB class racing, this bike can be raced in many classes around the world and should add new excitement racing against other premium street-based twin roadracers. The 1190RR models are constructed at our shop from new 1125Rs with a complete kit of Superbike level components. Engines are completely disassembled and blueprinted, with top-shelf internal parts added to deliver reliable performance at the extreme rev ranges required for a twin-cylinder bike to compete at these power levels.

The chassis is completely updated with the finest components, as well as all the details for adjustability and comfort requested by the top test riders who have been involved over its development. Test riding of the 1125RR by Alex Barros, Jeremy McWilliams, Chris Ulrich, Taylor Knapp, Cory West, and more – plus the 1190 motor and a winter of further engine and CFD development – means we can finally deliver an exotic American racing motorcycle that will deliver world-class track performance and excitement for sponsors and fans.

Not quite, there is a non carbon edition that is priced a few dollars less than the carbon edition. There are suppose to be 100 of the 1190's built.

[down]45,000 id rather have two better new bikes and a couple used bikes for the same price.more power to him though

ok just to clear things up..
the 1190RS is based off of the EBR's 1190RR racer which is priced at $44,900. The 1190RR is a byproduct of the 'old' Buell's Rotax-engine 1125R.
The development of the bike was a collaboration between MotoGP riders Jeremy McWilliams, Alex Barros and a host of other top US racers. The 1190RR has an impressive power to weight ratio, with a weight of around 362lbs but delivering 185bhp and 93ftlb of torque to the rear wheel.
A comparison can be made to the power of a S1000RR, the grunt of the Ducati 1198SP but weighing what a BSB bike would.
sorry Puzzled
That is the RR not the RS. Different bike altogether. The RR was based of of the 1125 and the RS is from scratch so to speak

The $45k or so CARBON edition is the priciest.
The AMA race version bike is cheaper.
The street base version even cheaper.

On any of them, change a few gaskets, exhaust, re-tune and it's damn near a GP bike.

The RS is not a 1125R. It's a new frame and everything.
