I really admire anyone that can deal with all that stuff as i wouldn`t even know where to start! its one thing i would love to be able to learn but to me computers are alien beings from another planet! lol

I started using ECMDroid to put pre-made programs in when I change a pipe or K&N. It is SUPER simple and all I need right now.

I've done plenty of EFI tuning on cars/trucks but just haven't needed to go that far with the bikes yet. The availability of ECM programs for almost any pipe, air filter combo is mind boggling. Unless you just built a turbo, stroker, billet headed monster... why start from scratch?

Ya, Tone. You need one of these:

I have spent a lot of time tuning XBs, both mine and others. ECMSpy and TunerPro are both excellent tools and the latest ECMSpy for Mono is great too but I have not spent much time using it. I look forward to working with it more in the near future as I reinstall the DDFI-3 ECM in my DDFI-2 XB. I got a basic program setup that allowed the bike to start and idle well but went back to the DDFI-2 ecm due to some time constraints. I plan to fully flush out the DDFI-3 programming to get things working just right over the winter months.

EricZ don't sell yourself short by mixing in all that DDF mumbo jumbo that most new buell owners are reading and thinking "what the DDeff"? You're skill set in the tuning world goes beyond the buell.
I've rebuilt my engine and transmission. I've hooked up a data cable and run diagnostics. I've done all sorts of structural and mechanical modifications to my machine. However, I'm intimidated by the ECM. I am yet to reprogram one.
I bought my bike in the fall of 2007 and it had one dealer service at 600 miles. Since then I've done everything myself. My bike has 43k or so on it now and I've never messed with the ECM tuning. I have an old school buell race ECM and it seems to work OK. I'm a hands on learner. I've read so many threads about tuning I should be an expert. Yet, I still hesitate to tweek mine. I know my motor could benefit from it but I also know it's something you don't want to dive into half hazardly. Too many "please help" threads out there. So to answer the original post... If you're a computer geek you'll probably take to the tuning aspect quit easily. If not, take your time learning. I'm still learning and WILL tune my bike on my own.. One day.

Sorry to back track but thanks for the comments Chicago! the whole buell thing can be a bit patchy over here so i just deal with the USA thats problem solved! and mate i was born a menace! ha ha when i start the bike up my shed self destructs and the whole estate wants to lynch me before the bikes even warm! lol As for the old bill can you imagine the grief they give me over my right arm mods! i mean what they dont understand must be illegal and the conversation about the muffler usually goes... bit loud aint it mate....what?. its a bit loud aint it mate....what?. i said your pipe is very loud!....what? that usually ends that issue! ha ha ha No fines so far though touch wood!! :eagerness:

ECMspy is a great tool and I am some what computer challenged so if I can use it anyone can use it. At first I was a little scared but read the instructions and went from their. To me ecmspy is more user friendly then tunerpro but there are guys that like tunerpro more. To me ecmspy is awesome and worth every penny.

I'm about to dive back into tuning my bike now with the new exhaust on it. It definitely took me a while to get things figured out with tuning, and still doesn't fully make sense to me. But I am learning and having fun. Its not that difficult, but you can screw thing up fairly easily. As with programming any sort of electronics.

ECMDroid is pretty great and I would suggest getting an android tablet or a used phone to do datalogging through.

Ok, so I'm not a hijacker, but this seems relatively appropriate...

Based on what I read here the community is saying that tuning is moderately easy with ECMdroid. So that being said-and adding I'm an apple mobile guy-I could root my old nook color, have someone build a duetch to micro usb and datalog and tune using a non Bluetooth droid device?

I bought an Android tablet off e-bay that I use for ECMDroid 'only' and stays in the shop. For $40. I even got a 5 year "drop and spill warranty" for $18. Worth every penny:)

I'm also an apple guy... I just bought the android tablet recommended by the Buelltooth website through Walmart. Works great and I may even try doing some video editing. Pretty decent for $40.

I am probably one of the outliers in the forum based on the fact that I don't physically do any maintenance to my bike aside from changing a headlight or putting gas in the tank. I am happy to pay a mechanic to do the pain in the ass work so I can just enjoy a well functioning bike. If you live in Chicago, the Harley dealer in Glenview has great mechanics who enjoy working on Buells.

IMO, my time is worth far more than the money it costs me to have them do all the required maintenance and check-ups. I bought the bike to be able to ride it whenever I would like, and after 3 years I have had zero issues or complaints about the bike.

Im new to ECM tuning but not to mechanicals (Porsche technician by trade) and am looking forward to getting into the tuning aspects of my Buell, I have the EcmSpy software and cable but just haven't hooked it up yet. I now know my bike has the Buell Race muffler and a K&N filter, which to me isn't much but would it be beneficial to update the tune in the ECM for this set up?? Thanks all!! - Dan

First bit of advise, that everyone seems to have trouble with. Click on the key button to turn on the live data.

Where do I get it?
