Exhaust and filter and ECM, oh my!

More $ and will require more tuning. It's also debatable that the equal length headers may be detrimental to the motorcycle in the long run....

Having to deal with different issues here in Germany I have the HSA sports exhaust and a pipercross airfilter. I bought it with the exhaust and got the airfilter after. The problem all Buells in Germany have since 2009 are the emissions limits, they had to lower the power about 10hp between 4500-5500 rpm to get it certified. So I got a ECU programming and voila. 103hp, much smoother riding in general and better fuel consumption. Just do the software, you won't regret it. Mine was done on the dyno and he adjusted one zylinder at a time.

If I were you I would get rid of the stock can for a Jardine and filter. Then remap your stock ECM with ECMspy or ECMdroid for free.

I think this is the most sensible advice. Yeah, there are cooler, whiz bang high end exhausts. The Jardine really sounds pretty good though. I think your suggested option could be accomplished for around $600.

Google it, bimmerfreak?I think it was has a nice ride by clip on you tube

They sound great very low and thumpy no tin sound. Not as loud as my d&d. I don't know the #'s but felt much stronger low and a bit better high than my d&d tuned bike. Which isn't a huge surprise if you do a bit of dyno test research, d&d isn't the greatest for power gain except in the middle, but I like em loud!

I've seen dyno sheets posted as making 98+ hp at the wheel with them, stock making 84-85 maybe. My personal test made 94 I think, without any tuning on an 08 xb12scg. Left a little on the table since the guy didn't want to mess with tuning it.

Yeah, the D&D seems like one of the better, if not THE best sounding one that I've heard. But you're right....I looked at the exhaust shootout article and the D&D wasn't that impressive. But honestly, they are all pretty close at the end of the day. I'm debating if any of them are even worth all the effort (meaning $$$). I mean, $600 to gain a few hp really isn't worth it....so it would be just to make it sound better, really. I think of all the other stuff that I could do for $600 and it starts to be tough to part with the money then. I just put new tires on my Buell (picked it up today, in fact) and THAT was money well spent. The 11 year old hockey pucks on there were NOT confidence inspiring. I could tell immediately that the new rubber was softer and safer. It was in the 20's on my way home so I didn't push it on new tires, but I think they will help me become a better rider once the weather warms up. Frankly, the Buell seems strange to me....it's so tiny and feels strange leaning into the turns...seems twitchy compared to my old Honda Hurricane, which seems so predictable. I REALLY want to learn to ride the Buell better.....it's really a cool bike. It's definitely made me a better rider on the CBR (Hurricane)
