Exhaust and race ecu hoopla

Okay, so I put a D&D pipe on my new '09 XB12Ss. runs fine except lost a little low end torque which is to be expected when using a opened up exhaust. I know it is probably running a bit lean too because of the backfiring and krackle when decelerating. I want to put an ecu on it to richen it back up but they stopped making them. Any advice or should I even worry about it? I have not done any other mods yet. I want to do the K&N and breather mod but don't really want to run any leaner till i figure something out with fuel mapping first.

You're ok with JUST an exhaust mod. But when you do your K&N, you'll need a remap or race ECM.

BTW, the breather reroute mod is OK to do anytime. It does not effect fuel/air flow

Last I remembered, gents, there isn't a Race ECM for the 08 and 09 bikes. Isn't the remap the only way to go now?

Can the dealership I purchased the bike from do a fuel remap?

No they can't. The only way I know is talking with XOPTI here on this forum because he found out how to remap our 08+ ecm but it seem to involve a bit more work then pre 08 ecm's

Actually, I'm pretty sure if the dealership has/uses Directlink they can re-map all year models. Call and check though, I could be mistaken.

I guess if they could they would have done it on my bike instead of replacing my ECM.

Not necessarily. It's a lot easier for them just to replace an ECM than spend dyno/tuning/troubleshooting time on your bike.

But again, I'm not certain Directlink works on the '09s. Maybe BPG will comment.

OK, via Directlink whether by these guys or the dealer, it's possible to remap later '08+ ECMs (including '09). I was curious for the answer myself and emailed JTS Performance. My question was is it possible to remap '09 Buells. Here's the response.
