I'm going to check out a '09 Xb12r Firebolt this afternoon and have a few questions. Hopefully, you riders can help. First off the previous owner replaced the stock muffler with a straight pipe. My thought is it has to be leaned out to the max; do you think there's any engine damage with 5K? Secondly, does this engine come with the cable from the airbox to the stock muffler. Reason I ask, he says the check engine light is on and H/D told him if he put a muffler on it the light would go away. Maybe they meant a stock muffler with all the attachments. I have a complete stock exhaust system from a '09 Uly; are they the same? Sorry for all the questions, but local help is fairly non-existent.

Quick answer....maybe,yes,no,no

1) depends on how hard it was ridden and maintenance.
2)Yes there is a cable that opens and closes the exhaust valve on the muffler
3) putting the stock exhaust and cable will not make the light go out.
He more then likely removed the exhaust valve actuator or if your lucky just the plug (under the air box)
4) ully mufflers are a little longer and the exhaust outlet is different and can hit your swing arm.
Now yes you could cut the tip down to make it work.

Good luck.

Thats not a fair question because no one can answer without knowing the bike and previous owner. sorry

No the bike does. The light is a programming issue because the exhaust valve is now inactive w/0 stock muffler.

2009 Firebolt12 or ULY are the same motors so the exhaust is the same as well.

Lesley, thanks for the education. BTW, motors start engines! A starter is a motor.
