I'm going back to the stock exhaust temporarily and bought a muffler only to realize that it only came with half the mounting hardware. I got the rest of the stuff and need to know which way the half moon rear mount goes on. It appears to have a pitch that would be different if you flip it. I bought my bike with a jardine on it so I'm not the guy who pulled it off, nor can I find a good pic online to guide me. Can anyone post a pic or let me know if it matters or if I can even mount it wrong?
I got the oil lines routed through it and haven't made it back out there since I went and got new bolts.

The "long" side goes to the left as you are sitting on the bike. The oil lines run through the "short" side.

jrad correct. and also the front mount interchanges so must be installed facing correct position. the correct position and method is to install the clamp with the captive indentation for the bolt nut facing right side. right side being the "brake lever side" of the bike. you must install the clamp first, then position the mount onto the motor ear...then install the long mounting bolt...then the nut on right side. no other method works properly. the threaded post for the front clamp faces left....the threaded posts for the 2 rear clamps face right. that is the factory method of installation. also...you MUST have the large header clamp installed on muffler flange prior to fitting muffler to the header outlet joint.

Might I suggest you download a service manual? This old thread has a few links http://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?1559-Buell-Service-Manuals
If those don't work go to buellmods.com. I got a service manual from buellmods a long time ago and it's really helped me out.

The service manual is a handy tool, but I have reviewed it and it's of no assistance in this particular instance. The image is unclear as to the orientation of the rear mount and makes no mention to the routing to the oil lines.

Good thing Lunatic chimed in! I removed my factory exhaust almost 8 years ago! Leading you to a service manual was the only help I could offer.
BTW I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. Had you originally stated that you referenced the manual, to no avail, I would not have posted such a suggestion.
And if you didn't know Lunatic is the Yoda of all things Buell. Follow his advice and I think you'll be back on the road in no time.

Actually there are pretty good illustrations and descriptions in the service manual in the engine section.

If I remember correctly the rear muffler bracket (half moon) will only go on one way. The short side towards the belt idler pulley like the other guys mentioned. I'm pretty sure if you tried the other way around the long side would hit idler puller. If you look at the picture closely you'll see differences around the bolt holes. The actual part is the same and orientation is the same.

As for the line routing there may be differences between the years. You didnt mention your year or model. If your cam cover looks like it does in the bottom pic, route your lines as it shows. If you have an 08+ you'll have to look in that manual.

Interesting.
I trust the service manual.
Guess you just have to know where to look.
Good on you nicholas900. Between your work and lunatics this guy should have everything back to stock in no time!
I'm just wondering where in the service manual he was looking. That looks pretty cut and dry to me

Oh yeah, I never saw that second image in the manual, the first one is from the exhaust page, looks like I should have referred to the "oil system" section.
Thanks to all!
