Hey guys, I have an 04 xb12r and it just hit 16k. The bike runs fine all the way until the fan pops on and it starts to sputter mostly at constant throttle then the cel flashes but no codes. Ive watched the readings on ecmspy and as soon as the fan kicks in there is about a 30-40 degree jump. I had the temp sensor changed about 4 months ago and it reads fine until the fan kicks in. My guess is the extreme temp change is causing inconsistent fueling and then making the emc cut spark because it thinks its overheating. Any ideas where to start?

sure sounds like a simple voltage loss to me but then i like to think the simplest things are the cause of all problems. :D seriously, the fan turns on when the ECM sees its operating parameters and completes the ground/negative circuit to the fan. perhaps your fan is going bad, drawing too many amps and causing this problem? anyone else chime in on this?

do u have the regulator upgrade? 03-07 are prone to regulator failure. 08+ have the upgrade. check ur regulator connections for signs of arcing

one of the vr's might have grounded out ur ecm; happened to mine. had to go with an 05 or 06 ecm with factory downloads on an 07 model

If it was an open wire, wouldn't it constantly cause the problem instead of being isolated to only when the fan engages?

From what you have said sooooo far i second the fan is on its way south. It sounds as if its drawing to many amps that are needed to run the rest of the electricals...

unplug it...ride it...don't get it stuck in city traffic and overheat the poor thing. just take for spin with fan unplugged and see what you have. it's the fan going south. i'd bank on it.
