This is probably normal but just went on my first ride and my fan comes on for about 2 minutes after I shut down the bike. Doesn't come on anytime other than that. Is it programmed to do that.

How do you know if your bike is running hot?

Will they over heat if in traffic for a long time?

Sounds like a the new ECM update. Is it a 08, 09, or 2010?

This is normal. Purchasing the right side scoop will reduce the fan usage

this is normal...since you have no air movement, the fan helps in removing the hot air near the rear cylinder.

My 09 now only runs the fan when the bike is warm. I had the latest ECM update done and this is what apparently changed. Before this my fan never came on when riding and would stay on for 2-3 minutes after I shut it down. Now after it gets to a certain temperature it runs. It stays running as long as my speed is over 30KM/Hr. When I shut down it does not come on. Really bugged me first with the fan running all the time but I am starting to get used to it

Normal.

I had a guess ask if "is that bike electric" when the fan was running. I said "why yes it is"

If the bike is over-heated, it is programmed to go into "skip-spark" mode. In short, it'll run very erratic and be very noticeable. It shouldn't overheat even when sitting in traffic on a hot day.

My 05 fan runs for several minutes after I shut it down. But it also comes on while riding occasionally.

I have a feeling yours is operating normally.

I recently purchased a 09 xb12r and it also runs the fan when I turn it off but a flick on and off of the kill switch it will stop the fan. It starts on high right away but after ten seconds turns to low fan speed even though it is 35 deg f out. common its not really that warm out.
