[mad] I have been trying for months to communicate with my bikes ECM and have never been able to. I purchase a cable then found I didn't have the driver installed correctly and here I sit in 90+ degree heat getting ready to post my bike on craigslist because I am absolutely fed up with this. It simply should not be this damned hard. No thread has ever addressed making the initial connection. Everything starts out, " fetch this open that play with this and ta da!, your done". Guess what, I can not even get started. I have played with every USB port on my laptop and then changed the com port assignment in mono to march what one I am on, then I get an error message that the port does not exist. I Lea e it set to 1 and every time I get a time out error that it failed to get data. What is going on?![mad]

I am trying to tune it. I installed a VooDoo exhaust and K&N air filter. Bike doesn't seem to run any different, however, my fuel economy is way up. I am reasonably sure I need to richen it up a bit.

Never tried to access my ECM, never felt a need. Never got too upset over mileage. It's a sport bike, not a commuter.

Guess I'm saying that you should relax and ride. You've already said you don't need the access.

If your plugs foul out because they're too rich, well, I was wrong. However, you said months so I figure your plugs are good, the bike is good: why are you parked getting all frustrated?

There's an open road out there with your name on it.

Make sure the drivers are correctly installed. Make sure the connection is solid. Make sure the ign switch is on, and the bike is toggled on (you will hear the fuel pump prime). Click the connect button in the upper left hand side of ecm spy. If it doesn't come online at this point there may be other problems.

I would start with the computer to make sure its recognizing the spy cable, if you cannot find the cable in your device manager under one of the USBs I would try a different USB port on the laptop. If the computer still cannot find it I would reinstall the drivers. If that doesn't work I would try a different computer. Standard troubleshooting, just like anything with a computer. If it still did not work I would start to suspect the cable, but would find someone else with a Buell and spycable to help test.

I usually don't enjoy troubleshooting connection issues (though it seems like that's usually what I'm doing with my tuning clients), but if you want to contract my services and get you set up with TunerPro, I'm happy to help. There are only so many things that can be wrong with the way you have things organized, and we can work through them one by one until everything is golden. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Otherwise, fireinxb's advice is the way to go.

I am worried that I am too lean. My bike never topped 50 mpg and now it does. I am more concerned with burning a valve. I have been traveling for work a lot so I have put only about 1000 miles on since making changes.

As far as ECM spy, I am under the impression I can not use it with my 09. I have been trying to fetch the EPROM with mono and use tuner pro to read and make changes. Am close to just dropping the $600 to have it tuned at the stealership.

Before you do that, send me a PM and we'll work out a much more affordable option. I can help you hit the same target for half the price.

I ride the heck out of my 09 1125, I have gotten a barker exhaust, have yet to put my K&N filter. but i still get over 50 mpg on a regular basis. there are more then a few spots on my way to work that have a 55 mph speed limet, and its not uncommon to get 55 mpg when i am crouched. keep in mind im also 200lbs and 6'3" hopefully that gives you an idea on how hard the bike is working.

after reading your comments and the responses i balieve there is almost definatly a disconect between either the computer, cable,or softwhere. as for your fuel econimy, as long as you are not romping on it i would say its about spot on. unles i have been running lean on mine since i bot it and im the only owner so it would have come that way.

good luck on finding a solution.

air wing term to anyone that did not know that :p

People worry too much about lean.

The symptoms for a water cooled multi engine running lean are very similar to the symptoms of an air-cooled twin running right.

Seriously, for the amount of time you've been running this set up, you'd have holed the piston if it was actually lean.

Old school reading the plug will give you the same info, although our plugs do run very clean. A faint ash is good.

Yep ash is good My 08+ Bike XB12R has a Drummer SS a K&N air with no inner air box Changes. Most of the time I run the Stock ECM cause I ride it weekly unless it is raining on the way to the Shop.MY stock plugs do a great job and I never had a problem with the Mileage. The small amount of tuning I've done has only lessened Decelleration popping. I've been getting close to 60 miles to the gallon sence it was new and as of yet no issues at 16,788miles. Pull the plugs every 3,500 miles, nice!If you are afraid it's running too lean the bikes were designed to do so.They had to pass inspection as so to speak!Just put a regular Air box inner cover on it if you have changed it,along with a paper air filter. You will now be covered.I don't know what changes you have made as far as your ecm but if the plugs are good and the bikes Engine sings Ride her and she with good care will last a good while.Remember Shes a Street Fighter.NOT a foreign bike.Yes I have a foreign Bike BUT it's a V twin Rc51. Ride Safe.*Jimi:D
