Looking to possibly get a fender eliminator kit.

A general question regarding the Diesel Moto kit: is it an easy conversion? Like “plug and play”?

I’ve been searching for installation instructions online but have not found any.

Also, is the ASB version of the Diesel Moto kit a better kit to purchase (it is a bit more money)?

Any other tips or advice on either kit would also be appreciated.

This would be for a 2009 XB12Scg.

Thanks.

both are way overpriced imo compared to these 12.00 ones

Route0766 -- what makes it a 2 hour job?

I guess I'm just wanting to know if there is any cutting, drilling, or splicing of wires for either kit (Diesel or ASB)?

Thx.

I think he means modding it yourself is a 2 hour job?

Cutting, drilling, or splicing of wires will depend on your plans for turn signals. Probably no cutting in either case...

My plan it to keep the OEM lights.

I don't want to cut up the bike. I want the ability at anytime to go back to the stock set-up..

What I'd like is how smith2307 has it in this thread:

Then there is the question on the difference today between the Diesel Moto kit and the ASB kit. The ASB kit is more expensive. I have read some threads from YEARS ago that said ASB smoothed out some things on the kit. I was hoping for more recent experience with the ASB kit, if possible.

A quick look shows that the DM product doesn't come with the plate bracket (which you mount the signals to) but the ASB does. With the plate bracket, you would not have to splice or drill anything...plug & play! You have to order that separately at DM for another $25 ish which makes the prices more similar. I don't know this but I wouldn't be surprised if ASB sources through DM for this part so you may be getting the same part no matter where you place your order? Both companies have a great history of customer service. If I were you, I'd call each of them and chat with them about the products directly then make your decision. Good luck! [up]

As the others have said about the DIY version.... you can always buy someone elses DIY, or someone elses full fender and DIY it yourself.
Then you have your OEM uncut peice in the garage ready for going back to stock.

The only reason for ASB or DieselMoto is if you like the look better... the "going back to stock" ability is the exact same as cutting up an OEM one.

There's ALWAYS ways around cutting up harnesses. You can get oem plugs, then splice into those if needed. OEM signals/lights in various condition are easy to find if you need to canibalize their plugs/wires.

I'm spit on this... I like being able to go back to stock. But I also have stacks of motorcycle parts in the garage and storage "incase I want to go back to stock", maybe to sell the bike? Dunno... but way more often than not, they never get touched, or get damaged in some way, or run out of room and I end up tossing them anyways.

I plan on going DM, because I like many others want to be able to keep all my stock parts, unmolested.

I saw the DM kit on ebay for 159.00 and it does include the bracket, if purchased thru ebay. I think thats the way to go. As far as mounting, its really easy, basically a plug and play. If u r somewhat handy, u really shouldn't need more than 2 hours for the job. Good Luck! and keep us posted [up]

Thanks.

Tough to do this unless you have an extra center tail section to cut up.

Still think Diesel Moto and/or ASB is the way to go for me. Again, that's me. Nothing against those who have done this mod themselves. Props to you.

Pulled the trigger. Bought the American Sportbike version. Update once I receive and install...
