I am finally getting these pics on here for all to see. I love this thing. It is not for everyone but I really think it looks just sick and it gives the bike lots of power. (I had to do some computer mapping to fatten it up all around) I have not got to a happy sport with the mapping but will start back working on it when I get her put back together.

That is definitely pretty cool. I think with a Blue Filter on the outside it would drastically improve the look for sure. The red filter just sticks out.

Mad props for your effort. Definitely different. Can you elaborate on what gives the bike any additional power (in your opinion)? It looks like the plenum tube would result in a more restricted intake, compared to the open airbox or even stock airbox design.

That does look trick, though!

Seems like it would to me too. Then again its forcing cool air from outside the bike directly into the intake, and this would increase the faster you go. Maybe this is the problem he's having with getting it tuned right. The bike sitting on a dyno isnt getting the forced air in like it would riding on the road.

I thought there was some software available using a wide band O2 and USB, where you can ride around a bit and log your A/F while riding. Maybe doing that combined with Dyno time would give better results. Dunno, just throwing it out there:)

Ya it only took about 2.5hrs to get it all cut, fitted, and installed.

It is a 2.5in 55 degree elbow then I when up to a 3in striaght pipe then back down to 2.5in going into the throttle body. I am thanking about going to 2.5in all the way then reduce to 2in as that is what the throttle body is (well close to 2in).

I am really close on tuning. Low end seems to be ok it is up top where i am having a little problem not a big problem. I just can't run the bike at 140 with the computer straped to the tank so i plan on doing some dyno time. iI found a shop that can check the A/F on both front and back exhaust. i just have to drilll and weld a bung in the front header.

This "could" be where the problem lies right? If you are lean on the top end, it would be from the forced air coming in at speed. I saw a guy running his bike around with his laptop in a backpack. Wide band O2's hooked to his laptop to get his A/F ratio at speed. You could take those readings to the dyno and do a comparison. Should be easy to dial it in from there.
 
There is no 'forced air' with this setup. At best, the intake is getting cooler air than before, much like a cold air intake mod on a car, so that might help it run somewhat better. As I said before, I would suspect the bike is running richer, not leaner. It has to be getting less air due to the smaller air path. However, any richness from the intake mod might be minimized to a degree by the Jardine.

The engine is basically an air pump. Normally, when you modify the exhaust with a free-er flowing can, you match it with opening up the intake (open airbox kit, cutting holes, etc.) so that the whole 'pump' works more effiently.

Well ok, not like a supercharger, but what is happening when hes riding fast? More air is being forced into the intake being on the front of the bike like that. The faster he rides...the more air gets forced in.
 
Yup, very cool!

It is pretty much like the ram air scoop but modified. That is why people noticed a difference when they took it off, started up their bike, and went for a slow spin.

If you go highway speed often, then I would say that setup would be amazing. Your getting more cooler air directly into the velocity stack. Which in turn could be better mileage, and more power at the top end. Granted the slower you go. The worse it would be. Hence the point of "ram" air.

By the by, where did you put the O2 sensor?

I wonder if it would be better to do something like this to an 08 or newer version. Then the ecm would recalibrate itself when you are cruising at highway speed. Then again when you go down to residential speed.
 
Cant do this on an '08 I dont think. There is no air intake hole on the left hand side of the frame in the '08 models.
 
07' and newer you can't do it because where it used to be an intake hole it now holds fuel...I was very disappointed...oh well.
 
The O2 sensor is in the factory location. When you add more air in and out you have to increase the amount of fuel To keep a proper air/fuel mixture...

Hey Firechicken, what is the inner diameter of the first piece you bolted to the throttle body? Also did you remove all of the stock black thing that was on the throttle body? or did you mod it to bolt your first piece of the intake to it? Thanks!!
